Can't get the Aweber auto sign up via paypaly thing to work

Hi there

I read this cool Ebook on the forum here showing how to link your Aweber account to your paypal so that if somebody buys an ebook via paypal, they get added to your aweber list.

The problem though, is when I confirm the email in paypal using the code that aweber gives you to manually confirm the email, Aweber still says the email has not been verified.

Sorry, I know this is very specific but any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I also want to use the $7 script thing but wonder if that won't work if I can't get this bit working first??

Beers,
Phil

Might best best to contact the person you bought the product from. People here are generally helpful so no responses leads me to think not many people are using it

    Phil,
Technically, there are ways to do that. However, that is against the Aweber's Terms of Service:

Batching or in any way trying to script the addition of new subscribers to the web form subscribe methods is strictly forbidden. A script must not be used to auto submit a web form subscriber on behalf of a website visitor. The visitor who desires to subscribe to your list must be the one to activate that subscription process.

Ahhhhhhh, that's very interesting. Best I don't do that then...and in fact could be the reason why it no longer works?? The Ebook was on Warrior for free not long ago and seems that it did work once using the Email Parser option. Anyway, I think it's best I don't use it by the sounds of it.

      Thanks for your help

What you could do is have an opt in form on your thank you page, and have a script pre-fill the form automatically and ask the user to click the button to subscribe. This way you let the user subscribe himself, however, he can do it with one click. Plus, people's eyes get naturally attracted to such part of the screen: with their own name on.

I used to think this was a really good way to build a list, but I have since read that doing this is against Can Spam Act or whatever it is. Meaning just because someone buys from you doesnt mean you can automatically add them to your list. Just something you might want to check into.

can spam doesn't say anything about who you can add to a list

in fact can spam doesn't even say you can't send spam emails, it actually tells you the guidelines FOR sending "commerical" emails.

    Hi Mary,
I think it ok if the user replys to the confirmation mail which is your proof that the user willingly opted in.

On the topic of mailing lists has anyone here use phpList? It's free but I wanted to know if it was good enough to use instead of a commercial solution like Aweber.

    From ftc.gov:
A "transactional or relationship message" - email that facilitates an agreed-upon transaction or updates a customer in an existing business relationship - may not contain false or misleading routing information, but otherwise is exempt from most provisions of the CAN-SPAM Act.
It would seem that an email follow up to a product purchase falls under this provision. And I don't see anything in CAN-SPAM that requires double opt-in or even single opt-in. But I don't think automatic sign ups violate this law.
