Website flipping -- please help with this!!

Hi all

I have some questions regarding website flipping.

1. Buy domain name and set up on my hosting account -- how do I change this once I have a buyer? Meaning how do I change the hosting to the buyer as well as domain name.

2. Once I created the site and sell it, how do you push all the data to the buyer? -- Do you zip the file (index, images, template etc) and send via email?

3. Is it better/easier to build sites in HTML or wordpress?

4. Where do you buy your templates from? This gives you the lisence to sell the site once you buy the template?

Thanks for the help.

    Hi Werna,

    1. It depends on your registrar (where you have your domains). If you have them at a place like GoDaddy then its as simple as "pushing" the domain to the buyer once they sign up for an account at Godaddy (if they don't already have one). Other places may have something similar where you need the other persons account info to make it happen. Find out if your registrar allows you to transfer domain ownership to someone who also has an account with them (and if they allow someone to just sign up for a free account). I know you can do this at GoDaddy and Namecheap.

    2. It's up to you how want to do and how you offer to do it. You can offer to set the site up yourself or do just what you said and zip everything up for email. You should make it clear what kind of service you're including in your listing.

    3. Unless you're already an HTML/CSS Guru, I'd recommend Wordpress. It's as easy it gets! Fast and simple plus there's free plugins for all kinds of stuff.

    4. Can't say much about this as I mainly used Artisteer to make templates.

    Hope this helps!

    Werna,

If you are creating a website with the intention of flipping it shortly after it's created, consider setting up a new hosting account just for that site.

That way, when you sell it, you can instantly transfer the entire account over to your new buyer. The only thing you'd have to change is the contact information and billing details, and if you use a provider like HostGator, that takes only 2 minutes to do inside of the billing control panel.

As for the domain name, like mentioned above, it depends on the registrar. NameCheap is one of the easiest registrars I've ever used when it comes to pushing a domain over to a new account.

It literally takes 2 clicks and it's done. Just make sure to check "Change WHOIS data to new owner", so that the domain reflects your buyers information, rather than your own.

And for the actual platform of the site, again, it depends on the type of site you are creating. If it's a site selling a product, you'd probably want to go with a regular HTML based sales page set-up, but if it's an article or content syndication site, go with Wordpress.

If you need help transferring a Wordpress site to a new buyer, I just uploaded this step by step guide for you >> http://www.PLRTutor.com/Transferring-Wordpress.pdf (no opt-in required).

Thanks to everyone answering my questions, it is much appreciated.

I normally buy my own domain names from GoDaddy and have private hosting.

Will have a look and see what I can figure out with all the info you have given me.

Using go daddy, you'll unlock your domain and do an account change, you'll need your buyers godady ID number and their email address associated with that account.

If you're gonna continue to host, be sure to check the box saying to keep the nameservers. Otherwise they'll need to set the nameservers wherever they plan to host

I like to give all the files to them in a zip folder but its up to you.

Easier? Probably wordpress, but I feel that HTML has more options for customization, but thats my opinion.

Here's a guide to transfer the site to the new owner
    http://domainingdiva.com/transfer.pdf

If you want to transfer the hosting, just change the hosting account info to the new buyer. However, if they have hosting already, they won't want your hosting and you will need to just transfer the site to their hosting using the guide I linked to.

In the domain registrar, you push the domain to the buyer. They will need to have an account, which is free to sign up to and you just push the domain to their account.

    Kate and Suzanne

Had a look through your links (thanks) on how to transfer -- now I'm scared - LOL

It looks very complicated to do, sure I will manage if I follow the instructions.

Can I build my site in HTML and follow the same transfer directions?

IGNORE THE TOP SENTENCE -- JUST FOUND ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT HTML --

So basically I will create HTML website, then I zip the folder and send this by email??

Yeah ... an html site is a lot easier. Just go into cpanel and select all files and then deselect the cgi-bin folder and use the "compress" button to zip the files up. You can send them via email or let them download them.

        Hi werna,

        There are two issues here.

If this is just a one off sale then you are best asking yourn client to have his hosting company do that for him. Its a seamless process and they will gladly do it if their client especially he has purchased a new hosting plan. They will move his blog gladly.

However if this is a business model that you are pursuing then a more suitable option would be needed. A plug and play software known as Wordpress Twin is available and it will clone your blog, everything themes, comments, posts and even typos.

Then you can just upload it to the persons hosting account with one click. Google wordpress twin and pick up a copy.

Trust me it will be the best thing you have done if you are pursuing this business model.

          Hi

I am planning to build all my site in HTML and not wordpress -- I know how this works so feel more comfortable doing it this way.

Is the above mentioned only for wordpress sites??

There have been some great replies here, by very seriously experienced warriors!! I just might add that WP Twin is a stable recognized product, but there are also other similar backup/copy/clone solutions, most cheaper, some faster (some not plugins, but scripts and may give advantages in some situations).

Push the domain to the buyer and ask him to add the domain to his hosting.

    2. Once I created the site and sell it, how do you push all the data to the buyer? -- Do you zip the file (index, images, template etc) and send via email?

If it is wordpress, I would download all the files through FTP and push the domain to the buyer and ask him to upload it back.

    3. Is it better/easier to build sites in HTML or wordpress?

    I recommend Wordpress.

    4. Where do you buy your templates from? This gives you the lisence to sell the site once you buy the template?

I never used premium themes for sites to be sold.
