Advise on newsletter start up (existing subscribers ready to go)

Hi guys

I am posting here (and I hope I have the correct place to post) as I own a website that gives away sound effects (all 100% legal). I desperately need to monetize the website and have for 1 year been collecting subscribers by letting them sign up to receive a newsletter (which now I am ready to do - have all good software in place etc).

But I am wanting to monetize the newsletter by having either a few MPUs to sell advertising space in or one large one possibly. I have no real idea of how much I could generate from my newsletter but here are the stats:

Opt in Subscribers: 105,000
Daily new subscribers: aprx 200
Main interests of subscribers: Sound effects for use in independant films, YouTube videos, theatre productions, presentations, websites, iPhone apps, ringtones, fun and many other products/things sound effects are used for.

With 105,000 opt in subscribers, how much would be realistic to make from ads and is there any advise on the best ways?

Thanks in advance.

Very well done on creating that list.

If you have a relationship with your subscribers (they know you, they get regular mail from you), you should make about $1 per subscriber per month.

If you have no relationship with them, you can calculate $0.10 per month per subscriber.

These are rough estimates that vary.

Now here is how you can find out:

    Step 1:
Create a mailing that might interest your audience and measure the number of clicks (use bit.ly for tracking)

Calculate $0.25 per click as a value.

    Step2:
Then you can go to potential advertisers and base your initial rates on that.

If the number of clicks seems low in the beginning, start to mail to your list on a regular basis. The number of clicks will increase.

Thank you for such a quick reply hpgoodboyI think I understand your ideas. So you recommend that we create a dedicated mail-out for a service or product and track (a single link??) in that to estimate the success for the CTR and then use those stats as a base for our fee for advertising?
Do you think we should just say, "we estimate you'll get XX clicks and therefore an advert is $xx OR should we use some sort of CPC system and charge per click do you think?

      Interesting.... thanks
