shopping carts with purchasing advance credits feature?

Hi Warriors ...

Any recommendations on a simple shopping cart that allows members to purchase credits in advance to "spend" for digital products? The credits would be automatically deducted from their account when a purchase is made.

Thanks

Linda

I'm not sure about shoping carts with this feature but I do know a few of the membership scripts can work with points based systems.

      Linda,

I have an account with istockphoto dot com that does what you're looking for. I buy credits, I use them, they deduct them, I'm a happy customer. Perhaps you could find out what system they use and replicate it.

My Simple Member Pro works with a points system. This can be turned on or off depending on if you want to use the points or not and members can either earn points through referrals or through purchase. If you have the points turned on then the member will see a link to use PayPal to purchase and a link to use site points for each product listed in the available products portion of the members area.

I'm not sure what other membership scripts also works with points but I know at least one other does. There was a discussion here a short time back and someone mentioned another product that used the points system. Perhaps if you do a search on the forum you can find it.

    Fantasos works with points.

For example you can list a product for sale at $49.00 and allow it to be purchased with points (you can set the points amount at anything you want)

When someone goes to buy, if they have points accumulated in your system it will show on the check out page for them and will give them the opportunity to buy with money or with points.

If someone goes to buy the your product and they don't have any points in your system, the "purchase with points" option doesn't show.

You can also award points to products so when your customer purchases that product XX number of points are automatically put into his account.

I use this for my membership site. My Gold membership is $49 per month but each month you are given 50 points. I use my points dollar for dollar - another words if I sell something for $37 you can also use 37 points to buy it.
This makes the membership "free" because members can buy products with their points. They can save their points and buy more expensive items later on.

You can also run this as a credits system by selling the points (as a stand alone product) to them for use later on.

    Hope this helps

Thanks Debbie, thats the one I was thinking of.

As far as the points system goes it looks like the only difference is with SMP you can't assign a specified number of points to be awarded with a product purchase. Otherwise they seem to do the same thing.
