How to Effectively Use Analytics?

I have been struggling with Analytics for a long time now, and I cannot seem to find any simple and clear laymans guides that actually go through every single step and option and really drills down into what it all does and what it all means...

Does anyone have such a guide or know where I can acquire one?

I have read Googles own but it is stuffed full of pictures and brief explanations but nowhere does it explain how best to use it

Preferably I would love to see a domain with nothing on it being developed step by step and shown how to make the most of analytics every step of the way...has anyone written one?

    The only thing I have found believe it or not, and I don't know if it would be in-depth enough for you is Web Marketing All In One for Dummies. (Yeah I laughed too lol) but, the book does go pretty in-depth about Google analytics (in my opinion - at least deeper than some of the stuff I knew) and lays it out pretty well. Other than that, I don't know of anything else.

    I heard about that book as well. Although, if your starting off with gaining traffic, I'd focus on your organic, and referral sites +keywords.

    Anything more than that, you'll want to invest time/money into some books etc.
