List Building Growing Pains (...Can I Have Your Opinion?)

Hey all,

I'm at the point where I've began experiencing what I'd consider to be some "growing pains" with my lists. I was hoping to get some honest feedback on what YOU do in your own business, if you've experienced this before.

Here's the deal:

I've launched a handful of products in the IM niche now (WSOs and otherwise) and for each product I've created a new list in my Aweber account. I like to keep the marketing and follow-ups tightly targeted, and usually structure 5-7 follow-ups with extra content, unannounced bonuses, related offers, etc.

Where the problem comes in is when I launch something or run a promotion and want to tell more than one list about it.

If for example I create and launch a new WSO and email my lists, the people that have bought more than one thing from me will be getting between 2 and 4 emails about it.

Problems with that:

1) it's too many emails
2) the promotional email will vary between lists in most cases, which can cause confusion

Now, I'm obviously familiar with the automation rules in Aweber and would normally use them. But, I promote certain offers to certain lists and if I "removed one from list A when they subscribed to list B" after they bought product B, then what if I want to run a promo for List A subscribers?

Dilemma.

What do YOU do to prevent this?

Here's a solution I was thinking of:

Create a "Main List" and subscribe them to that main list via automation rules when they subscribe to a sub lists (ex: A, B, C, etc... which signify purchasing other front-end offers).

Run major promos to the Main List, and only blast targeted promos to the sub-lists.

Another question from that: is it ethical to auto-subscribe to more than one list at the point of purchase?

Business is awesome, and kinks are a part of the process I guess.

Thanks for any opinions everyone.

-Tom

Talking through it helps I suppose.. I just wanted to see what other people are doing as well.

Thanks for your input . I really didn't know if that was considered ethic or not..

I just started building a list and what I have right now is One MAIN list that contains ALL buyers and freebie seekers from the same market...then I have a main buyers list that has all buyers of all my different products...then I have a separate list per product I sell, and a seperate list for all my different freebies.

I don't think you can auto opt-in someone to another list. I might be wrong about that though.

One thing you can do is this...

Let's say for example you have 7 lists and you want to send a promotional email to 1, 3, 5 and 7.

Create a broadcast in list 1 and when you've finished use the "Include List" feature and tick lists 3, 5 and 7, too.

The exact email will be sent to all subscribers from those lists, but if someone has multiple subscriptions, they'll only receive one email.

I think that's the case anyway, but I'm not very good with technology so there may be a better solution.

You can auto-subscribe people to mutliple lists within
AWeber at the same time using the subscribe-on-
      subscribe
      feature:

Can I Add Subscribers to More Than One List At Once? :: AWeber Knowledge Base (no affil.)

AWeber allow this and it's an ethical process.

So, you can auto-subscribe people to a Master List
when they join one of your other lists e.g. a list for
a report, a list for a specific product, etc.

With AWeber Analytic accounts, you need to bear in
mind that your monthly fees are dependent on the total
number of subscribers (and unsubscribers) in your
      database.

However, segment your lists whenever practical so that
you can send more relevant messages to the subscribers
      of your more specific lists.

Then use your Master List to send messages that you think
will apply to all of your list members. Having a Master List
will also minimize the chances of multiple messages being
      sent to the same subscriber.

      I hope that helps you.

      Dedicated to mutual success,

The idea here would be to segment or audit your lists and market to them individually.

Here is what I mean by that.

Your Lists A, B and C. Say List A is the initial capture form, list B purchased the front end product and List C purchased the front end product and the upsell.

You need to remove and segment them all, so no subscriber is on all lists.

Wherein you can tailor a message for all, then send it to all lists, if you have a very new product, you might want to give your active customers first dibs so give them 50% off if they leave a testimonial.

So you have to have targeted marketing set up, there should never be any automation to that aspect.
