Just search Google for lots of social words, search for lots of personal words, search for lots of fun words. Just any words that you could relate to a social networking site.

When you have all of the words laid out you can start to combine them and see if anything has a ring to it!

    Hope this helps,
    Kind Regards,
    Connor

To create and sustain a social networking site requires enormous amounts of unending creativity. Sure you want one if you can't think of a name for it yourself?

I understand your frustration, but it is also frustrating for some of us here when you continually get answers like here and here and I'm just wondering if you used any of that?

im not going to make general social network (like fb), but will target smaller audience.
And that is all fine and dandy - but what is this new specialized network about? What makes is special? Don't you think that might be pertinent information to us giving you more valid answers?

Perhaps the well here at the WF has run dry then.

You need to make yourself a system for finding your name.

We have no clue what you want exactly - it is so vague.

Here's an idea - hold off on the domain name or branding, and start planning the actual site and all the details it will have. Perhaps when you have all its functions thought out, the name it should have will be more apparent.

You can also build the site first on a "filler" domain name, and direct us to what you have built after the fact and we can tell you what we would name a site that looks and functions like what ever you have put together.

Personally I would suggest that you try something different. There are 1,000,000 easier ways to make money online then creating your own social media site and convincing a country to move from facebook where all their friends from other countries are, to yours.

Go to the WSO forum, but five WSOs that cover different methods of making some quick cash online with repeatable methods. One of them is bound to be something you can accomplish. Scale it up. Hire a coder, make the next Facewitterupon and become uber rich, simple

But seriously, from someone that has been in your position before, just try something easy first, start small and build up. If you have no money to spend it is because you have not become successful with anything yet. Find something that works for you and stick to it.

Hopefully you will listen to me and save yourself the time you will loose with this.

My mother once got this nylon poufy thing as a housewarming gift.

The little tag attached to it said "Quckly and easily cleans windows, walls, floors, and fixtures!"

She said "All RIGHT!" and tossed it on the floor, shouting "GO!"

After a moment of silence, she looked at the person who gave it to her and said "It doesn't work."

Spending money on a WSO isn't the end of the process.

oh wow... ok, not to burst any bubble... but, if you don´t have money to invest don´t go after a community.

start with a simple business model, it will give return faster - maybe - but a community takes a lot of resources before seeing any return.

To write in a foreign language when you are not comfortable with it generates an inner tension that transpires in the writing.

I fired before hiring one time a guy for being a sexist son of his saint mother, and the guy had no idea where I had taken that from... it was a cultural issue.

Over that, you have the business mindsets. For me it is fun to make a search to see if I can find something. It is not wasted time as keeps my brain sharp. For people more business oriented, it is offensive to ask for their time if there is no clear return over the investment.

I don´t get fighting vibes from him, just communication issues. I might be wrong.

Ok, ok. Perhaps I was a bit brash. I didn't think of it this way. My apologies to true900 if I was offensive.

Let me be try again. What country is this website going to target? If you have no money, no programming experience, and can't find anyone to help you for free...you won't find much success in creating a social website devoted to an entire country without one of the above. There needs to be something special about it. A niche to it. Instead of having a general social website devoted to your country, why not offer it to a certain type of people in your specific country? Such as social network marketing enthusiasts in "insert country here."

Honestly, it's not fair to say that your idea will absolutely fail, because we have no idea who you are and what exactly it is that you are doing, but it does sound like you really haven't mapped this out very well.

          Good luck to you.

I think one reason you're not getting suggestions might be as Jill said, you are being so vague.

You don't want a keyword rich name, but you want something that caters to a niche - what niche?

What do you mean creative? Do you have any examples of sites whose name you like? Often you get better answers when the questions are more structured.

Please don't be offended, I'm just trying to help here.

      That is the problem.

If it is not "general" then it is specific to something or some particular group of people with some kind of joined interest and this is what needs to negate the name. It needs to appeal to them.

If you are just waiting for a name to be created and expecting that to narrow down who your group is based on what someone else comes up with, that isn't going to happen.

I suggest that you forget about the name, you don't need a name at the moment. I suggest that you start to build the site and do your market research. If you have not discovered which niche market you are going to target yet, then there is no point thinking about a name. You need to lay the ground work before you start thinking about what makes your site unique.

Okay so you are making a social media site that is just for a whole country. Why would the people not just use facebook? What will make the site stand out? Is there any special feature that you can twist into a name?

Twitter is called twitter because of the fact it is mostly concentrated on chatting to each other. Stumbleupon is called that because the special feature it has is stumbling upon various sites you may like.

If it's a site for people in your country try using a term that your fellow citizens can identify with and put the word 'link' at the end. i.e. _____link.com (or .net or whatever)

Just a quick thought. Good luck.

Hrmm have you got any sort of tangible proof that a large portion of people in your country don't like facebook and want a new social media site that is essentially the same as facebook but just for people in their country? (possibly the only people they talk to anyway, or limiting their communication if they have friends in other countries thus making facebook the better option).

The thing about product creation you need to understand is you cannot just make a lesser version of something as big as this. Whist there is a very good chance that if people are buying a product and you make a similar one they will buy that to, with a massive social media site like facebook, if you don't create something different and innovative, people will just use facebook.

See where I am coming from?

Personally I suggest that you do some research and find what people don't like about facebook, find out what social sites they do like, what they like about these sites. Mimic the best parts of the sites they like and try to combine them in an effective way.

Make sure this research is tangible and quantitative, there is no point just saying "I think this is a good idea", you need solid proof. If you do not have this proof then 99.9% of the time (hell you may be the 0.01% of people that succeed) you will waste a whole load of time and fail.

Research is the most vital part of your product, doesn't matter how awesome you think it is, because you are not selling it to you.

      Hope this helps

      Kind Regards,

Try to get the most common or at least the main problems being encountered by most social media members. From there, analyze and create something that your site will be offering to your target social media members. From facebook, you might want to incorporate to your site a personal journal features or something like that- that specializes on capturing every members creativity; or from tweeter employ something that would not only announce but would also let members find their interest and help them develop that interest. Something like this would help your site stand out and win the competition. Research and identify the needs of your members and develop something great out of it.

    That's "friend village" in Finnish.

Well, technically, it's "ystävä kylä" but nobody knows how to type that.

a "fun" name is catchier than a boring one.

    the crazier the better.

since you arent giving away much info about the site, and it is going to be your site, .... you bought it.. you name it.

Whichever country you are in, think of a name in english and see if you can translate it into the native language of your country.

IF there is no translation then the NAME of it may still be in english, but the language the site is written in is in your language.

The sillier and crazier the name is, the better.

You never know, other countries may want to copy your idea for their country....

    Good luck

    Hey, tnx for anwser.

Country would be slovenia. Well if i break my country to niches, there wouldnt be really a lot, beacuse its really small country, and than breaking it into a niches would make even less of them to join, if thats what you mean.

Ok, so did a tad of research. Slovenia is a small country indeed, with a population of only 2.05 million. 526,480 are registered on Facebook. 265,880 are men on facebook and 249,740 women. What this tells us is that only about a quarter of the people in your country are interested in social networking or maybe the rest really just hate facebook.

You may have a fighting chance, if you do this in a smart, and well planned out manner. Do most people have personal computers in your country? It's going to be terribly hard to convert Facebook users to your website completely, however you know that they are interested in social networking because they use facebook, so you could promote your network as a secondary to facebook, not a replacement. Kind of like some people have a facebook and a twitter. Perhaps facebook users would be willing to try your site as well.

Another thing, you could try and integrate your site with facebook. You will need a programer's help of course, but if you could get that working then your chances of success will double, if not triple.

Are you using SocialEngine? In this case, you have most of the programming and so forth already done for you. Here is what you need to focus on to grow your community.

    - Make sure it looks good. Crisp and clean is the way to go here.
    - Search Engine Optimization. This is going to be a HUGE factor in getting people in. You need strong keywords that target your country. I would even try to include the name Slovenia in the name of the site. Like "mySlovenia" or "ourSlovenia" or something like that.
    - Marketing. Judging by the numbers of people on facebook, you are really going to have to up your game in marketing. Add your URL to everything you do. Emails, signatures, etc. Go to blogs that are focus in Slovenia and try to get your link in there or some form of advertising. Word of mouth works VERY well, after all, it's how facebook got started. One person told another and another another and so on. Now they have over 500 million users.

Honestly though, you are going to have to have a better hook than "A general social network for Slovenia". Give the people a real REASON to be there. Tell them how they will benefit from it. What will they gain by signing up? These are questions you need to answer before you start heavy marketing.

    Hope this helps.
(and sorry, I can't think of a good name at the moment)

Um, there is a much bigger lesson here you seem to be missing.

Do you see what jkennedy just did? It's called research. It is the type of data you really should be digging up and collecting. You will be in a much better position to create the right kind of site if you have some verifiable information. Like, who you will attract to your site and what you should be specializing in to get them there. Don't think they will come to your site just because it is based in your country. Obviously, some of these people have no problem going to facebook.

"Build it and they will come" does not always work. They need more than one reason to come.
