Go with Dragon as Karan Goel suggests. I've tried 3 different speech recognition software before purchasing Dragon and they were all horrendous.

If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 speech recognition is built-in. You will need to take a little time training it for the best results. Dragon is definitely the best option, but if you need to start off free and have Vista or Win 7, then give it a try.

The built-in one works for me, but I still find my fingers are just about as fast at capturing my thoughts the way I want them to be...

I tried Dragon, but it couldn't recognize 70% of what I said. Then I couldn't get a refund due to it being software, but that was awhile ago so maybe they've improved...

The best one is Dragon Naturally Speaking - However if you are looking for a cheap one then windows vista and windows 7 come with a copy of their speech recognition - Search speech recognition in the program menu.

      Dragon Naturally Speaking 11, hands-down.

I recommend the Premium version over the Home because it has
      more features.

      Premium:
      • works with Excel and Powerpoint
      • plays back your speech
      • allows you to upgrade when the new version comes out
      • has a larger vocabulary
      • has Bluetooth capability
      • works with digital voice recorders
It costs about twice as much as the Home version but there is a student/educator version which runs about USD 90.00 if you qualify for it.

      Hope this helps!

    Dragon has no equal, imo.
You could get the cheapest, but the latest edition as well:

Dragon Naturally Speaking 11 Home Version, its $49 at Amazon. Best investment you can make!

As others have said Dragon NaturallySpeaking is absolutely the best.

Actually, I am using it to type this out right now. However, like others have pointed out Windows Vista and Windows 7 comes with speech recognition. However, it pales in comparison when compared to Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

I use the software with a yeti blue microphone and the recognition is 99.9% accurate.

Every once in a while I will need to correct a word. Most of the mistakes are made by human error though. Meaning, I said something totally different than what I wanted to write.

Anyway, Dragon NaturallySpeaking has been the best investment for my business. I can easily credit tens of thousands of dollars to the software alone.

My productivity has increased by such a large number that it would be hard to put a percentage on it. But if I had to put a percentage on it I would say my productivity has increased by 10 times or even more.

    Talk soon,

I agree with shoaibahmad9999. I'm on version 11 of Dragon Speak. Been using this solution for several years. This version is the best yet. Incredibly accurate and fast. I think it's like $100 now. Don't waste your time on any other system.
