Just lauched on Clickbank yesterday

I'm brand new to this. I "launched" as a retailer on Clickbank yesterday. The product is aimed at project managers in the computer software industry, a seriously premium demographic.

On day one, I got 11 affiliates signed up, 35 hops and zero sales. Is this normal or am I going to need to get more pro-active?

Lots more testing and work to do!

    35 hops is nothing.

You will need to get really proactive and promote heavily. To test properly you need hundreds of hops, then you can see what your conversions are like, and what you can do to tweak it, if needed.

The more tools you give your affiliates, the easier it will be to promote, give them good graphics, banners etc in various sizes. Also a series of articles for their autoresponder. Create a relationship with your affilates, get an ebook written telling them the best ways to promote your product.

11 affiliates on day one on your first product is not too bad. But don't worry about hops to sales. You could get hundreds of hops before you get your first sale... It really depends on how the affiliate is marketing to these folks.

So don't get worried just yet, it will come along

You have to be a lot more pro-active. What you need to do is create 2 marketing plans. The first marketing plan will be in attracting affiliates and exactly how you will do that. The second marketing plan will be for exactly how you will attract visitors of your potential market and convert them into buyers.

You cannot simply make your payment links live and hope they will come. You have to have a strategy.

So now that you have your product up and ready for sales your next step is to go out and learn how to create these 2 marketing plans.

Personally, you should have done these plans way before creating the product. How do you know your product will sell? How do you know your target market and their biggest problems? Market research includes learning where your market hangs out online but it also includes where your competitors and potential affiliates hang out online as well.

That all should have been done before creating the product. Projecting and goal setting of the exact number of sales you expect and then working backwards to ensure you include a traffic strategy in your plan to come up with that magic number of site visitors.

    Here's what I mean:

Let's say you want to sell 1,000 copies of your product. Let's say you've written a decent sales letter and included a sales video for better conversion. Let's also say that you expect a 1% conversion of visitors into buyers. Now you have something to work with as a starting point.

At 1% conversion that is 1 sale for every 100 visitors. So if you want to sell 1,000 copies you need to drive 100,000 prosepcts to your sales page.

Of those 100,000 prospects let's say you have a decent free incentive to get them to signup to your prospects list. If you can get a 5% conversion to get people to sign up then that would be 5,000 people on your prospects list after you have driven this amount of targeted traffic. You could expect a higher conversion but let's keep it at a conservative number. Everythign above this is a bonus at this point.

So let's get back to getting 100,000 prospects. If you could find 10 solid JV partners to each drive 1,000 people to your sales page that would be 10,000 prospects in which you should expect around 100 sales. From there you can see which JV partners delivered the most sales. Now you can contact those JV's and see if they will do a Teleseminar with their list to get even more sales.

Only 90,000 more prospects to go before reaching your goal. Think outside the box of other ways you can get traffic to your website. I like to work in blocks of 10,000 because it makes it easier. You could concentrate on Press Releses until it brings you 10,000 prospects to your website and then analyze the results. After you have done that concentrate on another traffic method until you reach 10,000 prospects. Once you have done that for Press Releases, Videos, Articles, Guest Blogging and all the other traffic getting ways you will see which ways were more productive and concentrate on those.

Thanks. I know that there is a clearly defined market for my product. The problem is that I did not do this advance planning, as suggested. Yes, I need to get much more focused.

Perfect, now start creating a plan from the one I outlined above and make it happen until it works for you.
