Is There Any Way to Subsegment by Gender in Autoresponder Followup

I am getting optins from both sexes because many of my keywords are gender neutral so I've had to adjust my followup accordingly. However, some of my content just naturally lends itself to one gender more and I run occassional promotions for affiliate products like double your dating or catch him and keep him to my list.

I was wondering if there's any way to subsegment my list by gender or just make the process more user-friendly so that when I promote a dating product for men, all the women aren't like wtf this is irrelevant to my needs and eventually see stuff as spammy and vice versa

This may not be a big deal with one broadcast but when it happens a couple times, people can start to feel like what's being mailed to them isn't that targetted/valuable/appropriate to them and they unsubscribe at the end of those emails.

Is there any way I can do this without having two separate optin pages and customized followup for each?

I use aweber and there's no gender targetting/subsegment feature built in. I don't know if there's a way to get the user to self-identify at some point in the sequence without it being too big of a hassle (ie not on the optin page cuz that would be an extra field for them to fill out).

Edit: found an optin that gets them to self-identify and splits them into separate lists

I am looking at the source code and identified how I think they're doing it below.

Is anyone well versed enough to grasp what exactly it is they're using and how I would replicate this in my own listbuilding strategy?
