UK Warriors - Important Tax Question

Hey all,

If I'm working part time for an employer (15 hours weekly), and earning money through affiliate marketing too, what steps do I need to take to ensure I'm paying my taxes correctly?

      Follow this advice FrediDoo.

You need to register for self employment within the first three months of having started your own business (in this case affiliate marketing).

The forms aren't too difficult either since HMRC changed them to assist the new start-ups.

HM Revenue & Customs:First steps to register as self-employed

You can go to this link above to register online.

From my experience you won't have to pay business rates for where you work either because you will be operating completely from your computer (and the room you use your computer in is then used for other things once you've finished working for the day).

      Hope this helps.

Go to your local tax office... (HMRAC)

    And say to the lady..

    Excuse me dear..

I have recently started selling things from my home on the internet for profit, not my own things of course (insert calm chuckle) and I want to ensure that I am fully up to speed with my tax records etc.. could you advise me what I need to do and what I should do next..(this kind of terminology helps you to "connect" with the advisor and allows for her to guide you)

She'll talk you through the whole get started pack etc..

Then it is up to you to stay on top of it..as I am doing most of today... uuuughh

    Peace

Get some professional advise - the tax office is not the best place! Call a few accountants in your area and have a *free* chat to see the options.

Depending on what you earn and how there are many ways and being self employed is only one way and not always the best.
