T-Shirt Marketing secret

So for one of my web sites, the traffic has dropped off to almost 0. I designed some T-Shirts on Cafepress, one with the URL of this site. (I'm going to Macworld in January so I wanted to promote some web sites the easy way).
Last night I wore it to a skating rink (my niece was skating) and maybe 50-100 people saw it. This resulted in 8 page views - not a bad ratio for completely un-targeted advertising (the product did not match the location I was at at all).

Now I'm excited. I expected it to be totally ignored, but not so. I can't wait to wear this shirt to Disneyworld on Christmas day, or the Macworld expo floor (both places I will be going). I will post results here.

Anyone else doing this? I'm surprised I've never seen it mentioned anywhere else. Granted, this works best in somewhere with a high population density.

I joined the Eye Earn Network with SFI a couple of months ago and they use a similar technique. The only problem with it is that it's not promoting your individual page, it's promoting the network as a whole. But people do ask, and that's when you give them a business card. I wore my t-shirt on my trip home from Kansas to Maine for Thanksgiving. Those were some busy airports.

This technique is definitely a great concept. Hope it works out for you, it sounds like it could be goldmine.

What's on the T-shirt? And how do you know those 8 page views came from people at the skating rink?

ste25: giving away t-shirts is a good idea but they end up costing $17.95 off cafepress which is not cheap. I'm sure if I wanted to do that I could get somewhere to do them in bulk. If I were promoting something with higher commisions it might be worth it but not for this product.
eholmlund: I can only infer they were from the t-shirt. The web site has been at 0 to 1 visit per day for the last month, yesterday it spiked to 8 and they were all direct visits (not from google or any other page). If I was smart, I would have set up a unique URL for the T-Shirt - will have to remember that for next time.
It's simply a 10x10 inch graphic on the back. The tag-line for my ebook on top, a big picture of the cover of the ebook, and then the URL at the bottom, in the most readable font I could find. I'm sure better design could bring in even more viewers. I hesitate to post a link to it because it would be an affiliate link but if you want to see it PM me.

I wore one of my own CafePress shirts to Cedar Point last summer ... couldn't believe how many absolute strangers commented on it while waiting in the cattle chutes. At least a dozen, and I figure you're only stuck within shirt-reading distance of a few dozen people at a time for each coaster.

I figure for every person bold enough to make a comment, 50 others read the shirt and smiled or laughed; lots of pointing too. (I'm sure it wasn't just my chest getting their attention, nothing to see there.)

I can't be sure how those "product views" converted, but I DID sell a shirt with the same design on it within the week.
