Just A Thought: What Would You Have Been Before The Internet?

Hey guys,

Thought I would throw this one out there as I have been thinking about it lately.

The Internet allows many people to take advantage of various mediums in order to connect around the world and build a business as we are doing.

However what do you think you would have been before the Internet?

I suppose it comes down to your reasons to build a business and be self reliant.

Did you stumble upon it and find it paid more than your job?

Were you fed up with the 9 to 5 and determined to find your own way.

For me I have ALWAYS thought just because the majority are doing something doesn't meant that there is not a better way.

My first step to Internet Marketing started on a Friday afternoon - an awesome time in the 9 to 5 sales office.

Well that is if you have sales.

I used to work hard and no bragging intended when I say I was the best salesman/person in the office.

Not cause I was brilliant at sales - I used to do 3 times as many calls as anyone else!

So there I was working my a** off and I looked up to see my boss drinking beer and playing poker.

Now I got 20% of every sale I made and thought to myself "Why do I need a boss to do this?"

All i need is a phone and I am the salesman so what is the boss doing apart from collecting the money?

I told some of my work colleagues about this and they said - exact words:

"But Chris, you need a boss!"

Well I KNEW I didn't!

That was the start for me and haven't looked back since.

Anyway back to my original thoughts - I think no matter what time I happened to be born in I would of found a way other than the "norm".

What are your thoughts guys?

Chris

I was in marketing long before Al Gore invented the internet... LOL

It's just another tool in the arsenal.

No... not any more than I think there is no money to be made
with newspaper, radio, television advertising or direct mail.

Don't confuse the medium with the message or the market.

      Thanks for the reply.

I also come from a sales background as mentioned in the above post.

Sorry maybe I didn't explain myself properly.

      I mean:

"Why do you do what you do?"

If you work for yourself - not for someone else - WHY?

What is the motivation behind it?

Just interested to hear people's views.

      Also:

"Before the Internet - would you still work for yourself and find a way?"

Obviously in your case you would/are.

      Cheers guys,

      Chris Jones

  • I've always been pretty entrepreneurial on my own, searching for off-the-beaten-path ways to get an income. For a while I did the whole corporate rat race and I hated every minute of it, so I quit it BEFORE I even started my IM career. One way or another I was looking for my own ventures and the internet gave me the medium.
