Hey guys,

What is the fastest way to get traffic to my blog? I'm very new at this so I need some advice. My blog is a personal one and has nothing to do with making money or anything like that.

Thanks!

Try and submit articles to article directories on that particular niche, comment on do follow blogs with high page rank (do a search on google with the phrase "do follow blogs") and web 2.0 sites, squidoo/hupages. There are a lot of ways to drive free targeted traffic to your blog. But try the above strategies.

    Hi,
If your blog is a personal one, do you have a reason you want people to visit it? To get people to genuinely visit your blog when you have nothing to offer them to buy, you will need to have great content for one. Using paid services like PPC is out I would assume if you aren't making money from this? That is usually the fastest way to get targeted traffic if you have money to spend.

I'd say a good way to get some traffic would be to visit forums related to your blog and then have a link in your signature. Doing some SEO work so that it ranks in the search engines will help as well, but that is not always a quick method.

commenting on blogs is a really good way. Other than that it takes time to build traffic. I hate when people think they can get tons of traffic overnight.

Whilst I generally agree with your first two points, I must politely disagree with the third.

As mentioned by other warriors, if you have split tested your pitch page and conversion rates then PPC campaigns will actually drive traffic to your site literally overnight - but at a cost.

Other forms of instant overnight traffic also exist such as sending out an email to your subscribers can generate huge traffic (depending on your list size of course) to a brand new site that is not even indexed in the search engines yet.

If you don't have a list but have money then solo ads with established marketers in your relevant niche will drive traffic overnight. Again at cost.

These points may not be relevant to a personal blog like Olga's but I just thought I would share some helpful ways to generate traffic literally overnight.

      HTH,
      Rob

Went to your personal blog. It showcases your portfolio. You also informed your target viewers about your content writing services...

Based on my observations: This is how I interpret what you meant:

Your personal blog is not about making money online, IM and related topics when you said "nothing to do with making money or anything like that"...

    Is this what you meant?
If so: You need traffic so you can get possible content buyers interested in hiring your content writing services, correct? If so, I recommend positioning yourself as a content writer with expertise in specialized areas of presently profitable industries. Here are some supplemental tips:

    1. Offline publication networks usually pay higher rates. You can use your blog to showcase your content writing expertise, as how you're using it right now, I believe. You can contact them on the phone to inform them about your interest in writing content for their needs. You can then ask relevant contact details so you can include a link to your blog...

    2. For online publication networks: Participate in popular, top ranking forum and blog networks with contextually relevant discussions about your specialized areas of expertise. Use a keyphrase that directly communicates your specialized expertise to your target audience as the anchor of your signature link.

    3. Build mutually beneficial relationships with your target audience and possible joint venture partners in those offline and online places...

That blog can't be sold on anyway, it is a free wordpress blog.

It "appears" to be somewhere for portfilio/samples.

You can get traffic in minutes if you know what you're doing. And you can have continuous traffic without touching a thing if you know what you are doing.

Who says life has to be hard???

Ok, onto this traffic thing, and how things are organized over there such as:

      Uncategorized > The Trout
The trout is uncategorized. Some of what should be your sample posts are uncategorized. If you are wanting me to see your portfolio of writing samples, I want to know that you can categorize and tag things properly too. Not to mention, I want to see samples, not just random things mixed in if some of those posts are "personal"

It needs to be split up differently.

Anyway, here is what I would do to fix things up a bit.

Wordpress is great as you can rank really fast for some things if you use it the right way. What sucks about WP is you can not actually market or sell on it.

So, consider creating a second blog - a blogger blog. On this blogger blog perhaps you talk about your writing services, and rates for independent work, etc, and you link to the wordpress article samples. Then on the wordpress blog, you should have a blurb of some kind that links to the blogger blog - explaining what some of the writing is, and where they can get more information about you.

Try to use the categories and tags more effectively. This will help with the SEO on wordpress and get you to rank for things.

But I agree, if you are looking for traffic you are very unfocused on the traffic that will hit that site and it is like shooting a gun into and ocean of black water and hoping you catch a fish.

If you set up the portfolio site as a true portfolio site with some direction telling people its function you will have more of a funnel to drive that traffic and keep it in line with what you want the traffic to do.

ps - I'd find a different tag line on that blog too.

This is going to sound crazy. However, I am going to rec you tube and other video services. In fact, one of my sites gets 50% of its traffic from you tube and you can use you tube to make money. Becoming a partner is a good move.

Right now many content producers are struggling to find a way. Yeah to make their web pages pay. For example, banners do not cover our expenses. Most of us are forced to use affiliate programs to push products and services.

Social media creates very little active traffic... Kick start it with some paid traffic, email advertising, and build a list -- not just the blog rss subscription. Build an email list. SEO and email advertising is still proven to be the best source of active traffic.
