Do I Need Amazon Cloudfront and S3?

I have a video sales letter. Do I need to host it on Amazon S3 and Cloudfront in order for it to play quickly?

I'm under the impression I only need S3, but not sure.

They are both different things but both available from Amazon.

Ideally you want Cloudfront as its way better for the end user

On a side note i'd highly recommend using Easy Video Player, a bit pricey yes but very very robust and effective for all your marketing campaigns

    Wishing you the best dude

    Peace

Ok cool. I thought I needed S3 to store the video and Cloudfront to stream it.

You don't need it. Some people are just paranoid about the bandwidth that they would use if they hosted it themselves. But yes, S3 is all you would need if you wanted Amazon to host it. It does help with load time since its a content distribution network as well.

If you have a very large file and you are expecting a LOT of simultaneous video/page views from various parts of the world, then cloudfront will help significantly.

If your video is pretty well streamlined and traffic is moderate, you should be ok without the cloudfront added on.

It depends how big your video is. When you talk about a video of 10Mb or lower, there is little reason to host it on S3 Amazon.
But if your video is heavier and you expect quite a bit of traffic, I advice to use S3 in combination with CloudFront because that way you can stream your video.
In case you are interested: here is a range of articles/tutorials on the subject on miracletutorials.com. Just select the S3 Amazon/CloudFront link under Topics.

There is also a great video player plugin that supports S3 amazon streaming, namely S3Media Stream for Joomla and WordPress. They give excellent support on the use of S3 Amazon. They even intervene on your S3 account if needed.

Only way to know for sure is to test performance with and without.

How does it make life easier Brian?

I'm getting ready to launch a new product: webinars in a protected WP membership site...any suggestions?

          I'm pretty sure I want s3 - do I need anything else?

          Thanks

          Rob
