If I have MaxCDN, do I need to use S3/Cloudfront to stream videos?

I currently have my blog syndicated through MaxCDN on the recommendation of John Chow. It does seem load faster and for the $30 for 1TB it cost for the year, I thought it was well worth it. I've recently had my first video produced and I'm hoping to start making many more of them soon.

Anyway, when I was setting up MaxCDN, I remember seeing something about how it could be used to stream content as well. So I'm wondering if anyone has experience with it and whether or not they think it's a better solution than S3/Cloudfront or if I should just go with S3/Cloudfront.

I currently have an S3 account already both to backup my blog and to keep a backup of my files and eBook collection so I don't mind adding another bucket for videos but wanted to know about best practices before I do...

Thanks in advance,

Eric

    Hello,

I'm Kevin Baldwin from NetDNA/MaxCDN and I am happy to answer your question.

MaxCDN offers both HTTP caching and media streaming. You can do both from the same account. Basically, for your blog/website you could use a Pull Zone, which is our solution for HTTP Caching, and a VOD Zone, which is what you need for media (audio/video) streaming.

More over, you can use MaxCDN to backup your blog! Create a Push Zone so you can rsync your blog backups to it! So you have all 3 solutions in 1 place.

Please note that storage for VOD and PUSH is billed separately, and the fees are on our pricing page.

    I hope that helps.

Thank you. I appreciate the response. I thought I remembered seeing something about using the service for video. As for backup, unless there is a Wordpress plugin that does it, I'd just as soon stick with what I have because it's convenient. The whole process happens in the background and I don't have to actively worry about arranging for site backup nor do I have to mess around with internal programming.
