I'm considering a name change... real name? or pen name?

I'm thinking of changing my user name. I just popped anything in when I signed up, didn't really think I'd be around this long. But now I see, I'll be part of the furniture for a long time to come.

So, I see that there's a lot of warriors on here with actual names... do you think people use their real names, or stage names on here?

Cheers.

I'm sure that some are pseudonyms but I know that I use my real name and I also know a bunch of people who also use their real names. If you're just going to go with a fake name, why bother changing the user name at all?

Well I always wanted to be MAX POWER

Ye, think it's time for a name change, I'll go with my real name. I was just wondering what the norm is.

If you want to market yourself and become recognizable as a person, then a name change to your reall name might be worth it. I have done it. I used to be FreshDomains.

First of all, I am not a lawyer and have no clue on the rules/laws that govern the use of pen names, so I am NOT qualified to answer the question. However, Really it all depends on you and the way you want to make money.

Personally, I kinda did the same thing you did, my name is Mark and I use the user name of Nickolie0990. I have no clue why I choose it, it was the first thing that popped into my head when I signed up years ago.

You could always have a nickname and use your real name, so it really is up to you.

    Mark

I suspect it's a good mix of everything including gender manipulation and misrepresentation of country.

I'm using my first and middle name.

    MAX POWER
    Me likey, except...

Max Power Jr has a more elegant and sophisticated ring too it.

I was considering Tinky Winky but due to trademark issues decided it wasn't a wise choice.

I'll go with my real name. I was just wondering what the norm is.
I'd go with the name you want to be professionally know by.

If you know that you're going to be proud of it then why hide it with a pseudonym? But, if you don't feel comfortable using your real name then you can always put on another name.

on my (nearly ready) websites and forums, i'm going to be using a fake name. i'll be using that fake name also if i decide to make my own products. i don't see anything wrong with it. authors sometimes use fake names.

i would just prefer it if people didn't know my real name, so they can't look me up or anything, on the internet, facebook or in real life. i also don't want the people in my offline life knowing that i'm doing this. only my partner knows my fake name on the internet!

I'm in the same situation with "thedog", except I'm a "canyon". I signed up last year when a friend of mine told me that this is a good place to learn SEO for our Adsense niche sites, so I just entered whatever came to my mind, ("canyon" was the name of an electronics company from which I had a mouse in the past).

I'm tempted to change my username to my real name, but is that even possible? I'll try to find out...

Answer: yes, it is possible: http://www.warriorforumsupport.com/i...ge-my-username

Later edit: Jesus Christ, I don't know how I resurrected this thread, it seems it dates back from March 2011.

    • Hi, by my side I've always used my real name in everything I did.
Whenever I found pseudonyms, I think there is something to hide. But this is just my point of view.

I always prefer to talk with real people with real names, anyway

      Thanks and see you soon,

If you're in lots of niches, I've heard that could be a problem... and I would certainly wouldn't want to find out that the guy who's giving me style advice is also the guy who offers hemorrhoids home treatments...

I use a pen name. I think it's obvious "BloggingPro" isn't my real name. It is, however, my real picture attached. I honestly didn't even know I could change my user name on the forum LOL, so I just started branding myself as the BloggingPro.

Another possibility is to use your real name, and then "Blogging Pro" as the tagline under it.

Either way, I think using a picture lends personality, and makes you seem like a real person.

      All the best,

Pen name is safer for me. But if you're trying to market your own service/product then its recommended to have your real name on it.

I just changed my username, I'm using my real name so people can know who really I am. You can use a nickname and put your real name in the title below the username. For example, if you're designer, you can use CrazyDesigner maybe CoolDesigner or anything else and then put your real name below. By doing this, people will know you as the designer. Or maybe you can switch them. Use the real name in the username and use your nickname in the title below it.

  • I use my personal (real) name on the bottom of any posts that I leave in the WF, and I use my company name as the user name. This gives people the chance to talk to me directly, and say things such as "Oh thank you Arnold for that incredibly insightful amazing life changing post you just left", as opposed to someone replying to "Dear StoltingMediaGroup" (which sounds kind of silly if I am having a personal back and forth conversation with someone).
