How to do what you say you're going to do

Hey warriors,

I'm hoping you can help me out for a quick second.

I have this horrible habit of saying for example that I'll spend 2 hours per week following xyz backlinking plan to build links, but never do it.

Its kind of like saying I'll go to the gym 4 days per week, doing it one week, and never going back.

How do you guys combat this type of problem??

You need to focus on what following a specific course of action will bring to you. What would be the benefits of spending 2 hours per week building backlinks? Make a list if you need to, like this:-

-Will bring link juice to my site
-Will help move my site up in the search engines
-Will give me an increased chance of traffic and sales

It's all too easy to focus on how boring or challenging something is, but if you instead shift your focus to the benefits you will receive by doing it, everything becomes much easier

    Hello

    Hello

Set aside time you want to do the work at, Setup a calendar or reminds on your phone or email to tell you in strong words that you best get to work or else.

How about better get to the backlinking work you know you need to do or it's back to the day job!!!!

That's what I do doesn't always work but does help

I'm still in my day job but I still use it as a motivator

    Hope that helps

That's what I do still doesn't always work but helps

Try downloading an online timer that counts down how long you should spend on a task. If you have a time limit set on a particular task having a countdown timer really focuses your mind to try and finish the task in the alloted time.

There's a great free one on this link (not an affiliate link)

      1) Put some kind of strucutre in place where it is harder not to do the thing than it is to just do it. For example give a friend or loved one $20 (or any amount of money that it would hurt you to lose) and to give it back to you when you email them detailing the work you have done. The idea is to make it more painful not to do the thing than to just do it.

      2) Get a timer (google: scirrocco timer) and set it for 50 mins, with a 10 min break. Do your work in 50 min chunks. When the timer is running you are only allowed to do backlink work - keep a notepad by your side and when you suddenly remember something you have to do, make a note of it and do it after the 50 mins are up, do not do it straight away. Your discipline and focus muscles will strengthen over time as you work them.

      3) It's a lot harder to start something than to keep going, develop the discipline to start unpleasant tasks and push through for the first 15 mins, it gets easier after than. Get in the habit of starting now. I mean right now. Go and start it now. Reading a forum will not move your business forward, backlinking will. Do your backlinking right now (if you dont have 2 hours free do what you can and deduct that from the total for this week). Come back here in 2 hours once you have worked on your backlinking and read the rest of the posts. Your business work comes BEFORE reading our replies, get your priorities straight.

Just to add, I like to actually visualize the results(or potential results) a specific course of action will bring. Using building backlinks as an example, I will visualize what my site will look like on the front page, or even in the number 1 position. I will also visualize my traffic increasing(usually by thinking about the Google Analytics numbers), my E-Mail subscribers increasing and the amount of money I make increasing. Not only this, but I will also think about the amount of people the content on my site and my E-Mails are helping If these aren't strong enough motivators, then I don't know what is

I make a list of everything I have to get done each day and then prioritize it. As it is accomplished I cross it off. I find that actually writing out a to do list is really helpful and keeps me on track. I will often set a time when I need to have the task accomplished by.
