How Has The Culture Of The WF Changed Since You First Arrived?!

There is so many changes I have seen happen here on teh WF....probably because of its own success and the massive traffic that comes here each day.

remember the days when there was a bit of traffic here.....not gazillion post a minute.

Remember when WSO's were free.

Remember when posts use to stay on the same page for days on end.

Remember when ......

You fill in the blanks.

The biggest change I see is that there are hundreds of people who think that you can flip a switch and make money.

That is probably due to all the WSO threads promising the same and people falling for it.

We used to know that work was involved and flipping a switch doesn't do it. I feel bad that many people are going to have their expectations dashed after spending their hard earned money on stuff that doesn't work.

I remember when newbies came here to learn.
Now they come here to teach us how to earn
thousands in a week with their first post here.
It's a minor miracle how many experts find this place per hour.

There have been a lot of changes, but I think the biggest change has been in myself and how I perceive the forum.

    Think about it.

    All the best,

That is exactly what I was going to say.
At first it was big and scary and I didn't know anything so it was very overwhelming. Then after being there a while I noticed that topics would cycle. There is still lots of good information here, once you know who you can believe and listen to.

My arrival made this place much cooler. Other than that, I don't know. There is alot of good info, lots of good people helping. Then on the other hand there is alot of misinformation, people just spouting off what someone else told them, and constant and incessant self-promotion.

It's the natural ebb and flow of the (forum) universe. The same evolution to some extent took place on sitepoint and digitalpoint back in the day, for those who remember how much those sites were utilized before they were overrun with newbs and kiddies who wanted something for nothing (review copy please?!?!?).

Hell, I remember when Allen had a MUCH smaller site where many of the big dogs opened up freely and visited a lot more often. I'm not saying that there's a lack of information here, but it takes more time to sift through the crap to get to the genuine nuggets of good information. I'm all about innovation and invention, so I'm more tied into those discussions where marketing tackles something DIFFERENT..as opposed to "i need to make $xx,xxx by this month, what can I do?!?"

    Just my 2 cents

When I came here in 2004, the big shots made more money than I did and there were fewer big shots.

Today, I make a lot more money than I did then, but the big shots still make more money than I do.

When I came here, article marketing was only discussed as a method to build one's reputation and to drive targeted buyers to one's website. A year later, we went from having about 7 article directories globally to having 1800 article directories, and building links for Google became the primary purpose for article marketing as far as the masses were concerned.

Article spinning had not yet become part of the general vernacular.

Made For Adsense (MFA) was not a proper term yet -- I don't believe, and although Adsense was in operation -- it was still new.

EzineArticles did not yet have Adsense.

    PRweb was still cheap.

    I still had a job.

People at the Warrior Forum still widely believed that "success" was preceded in the dictionary by the word, "work".

I remember when ........ The only WSOs were excellent products/services that members were genuinely proud of and members were genuinely excited to see and buy. They tended to come at the rate of about 2-5 a month and were free to list.

I always used to love watching out for new WSOs because you knew they would be good.

    +

I remember when ......... Most of the people here were very knowledgeable but more interested in learning from each other than trying to tell others how to run their business.

This seems to have reversed now and lots of newbies come here and start telling others how they should run their business.

I think that one good thing that has remained is the core focus on community that despite the spammers and idiots that try to ruin things has remained intact.

When an established member gets into trouble there's always a line of members wanting to help.

Even when I give money away to people here, many of them give it straight to others more in need or even ask me to just pass it straight on to someone for them. That says a LOT about this community and the people it attracts and cultivates.

There's definitely a lot more noise and a lot of people who see this forum as a barrel shoot fish in and produce any old crap to sell, but no amount of that seems to be able to break the core spirit of generosity and positivity.

I think it's a combination of both how I perceive it... and there has been a heavy influx of novices and noobs to the entire world of internet commerce and marketing in general. Probably for a myriad of reasons... economic downturn, people out of work trying to make a go of something, etc...
