That's what I do too, I don't buy cars, I rent them. Buying cars in Singapore is a stupid thing to do.

I usually rent a Lexus for a few times a year, next time I'll go for the BMW. I haven't yet found anyone who rents Ferraris here. That would be cool.

When I set goals I always write down a reward of some type if I achieve them.

Example: When I made my first $1,000/month I took my wife to a nice restaurant.

    Example:2 When I made $10,000/month I bought a new plasma tv.

I am going to hit my goals even without the rewards, but it makes it more fun when I get a treat at the end.

Hi Dan, you should try a Caterham 7 (SV) if you can!

I used to be a petrol head too... my day job here in the UK, is with one of the F1 teams - although I prefer indy or sports proto racing ; )

Or the Caterham R500 - Top Gear made it their car of the year last night - faster round the track than the Bugatti Veyron

Thats cools that you were able to rent the car for a week.

But my first thought was that that was really a waste of your money my friend. You could have re-invested that 4k back into your business.

I guess when your young you don't think so financially straight....

Yes. I've done some really stupid things with money too. But as I get older I think back and get pissed.

I've spent hellacious amounts of money on cars 100k-200k and I was going to buy a $350k Ferrari and decided to invest in other business ventures, but the temptation was very real. But logically I could not make the move.

I wish you continued success and post again when you have some more success with your business. Thats the kind if success that gets me motivated and like to read.

Seriously it's good advice and something I try to do is to re-invest a reasonable percentage of my income back into either a present business or a new venture. I also invest in Real Estate which hopefully will give me a better return over the next 30 years than the stupendious 993 gt3 I had my eye on!

Funny thing is, after i had done 120 MPH down the motorway (the road was clear of course) I had a text message from the owner shortly afterwards.

It said 'Watch Your Speed, 120 down A47 today Dan, Dont want to see that again'.

LOL OH dear, he was'nt kidding when he told me it had extensive tracking.

He was cool when i took it back though, he told me i had looked after it quite well... and if i ever needed another car like an Aston or Lambo he would do me a great deal.

Useless thread award goes to you Dan ... why
is this here? Just bragging ... OT for this stuff.

No I`m not "jealous" .. lol ... doing 120mph is
idiotic not impressive ... pity you weren`t pulled
over and damn lucky you didn`t kill anyone.

Maybe one day common sense will prevail over
greed ... and cars will be speed limited as they
should be instead of speed limits ... speed kills

Perhaps when a relative or someone you know is
killed by someone just like you "takin` a joyride"
will wake you up ... hopefully you`ll "wakeup"
    before that happens.

Like I said ... you best "wake up" ... what if you
had a blowout, lost control and crashed ... just
because noone was around doesn`t mean that
        this couldn`t "cost" anyone anything.

Yup. Cars (vehicles) & roads are only dangerous when incompetent people get at them. Most people cannot even make a car move properly, nevermind drive one.

Dan that was a fun picture outside the Spar, even Tesco's would have been better :p

I got to drive my dream car, went to the dealers in Crawley, and asked for information about it. They had just released a new model. The salesman gave me the brochures, and asked if I had ever driven one, and would I like a test drive. I mean come on what a stupid question to ask. Off we went in the directors week old car, valued at (you don't want to know) he had every extra feature added that was possible.

Salesman puts on the tradeplates, and off we go down to the M23 and then the M25.

Get back to the garage and he tries to remove the tradeplates, to find he had broken the switches for the automatic roof to go into the boot. I wonder how long he kept his job for. But it was a great way to drive a car for a couple of hours. And we didn't park it outside a Spar either

Oh come on ....the guy was living every mans fantasy...driving a Ferrari.

I agree hoon drivers are stupid and I'm sorry if you have lost someone you care about from speed, but there is a difference between hooning around corners and just going a bit faster on a dead/quiet "straight" road in a Ferrari.

That is the most idiotic comment I've ever read.

Anything over 30mph can kill, mr.Glass-half-empty.

Speed has nothing to do with driving dangerous IMHO. If Dan was in a desert doing over a tonne you'd congratulate him so it's regardless of speed and more about the current situation and location, not to mention state of mind.

You have no clue as to how Dan risk assessed going the speed he went so don't try and put the dampers on his inspirational post.

        Chill dude!

I have lost a number of close friends (including my girlfriend) in vehicle accidents and they were all innocent victims.

Getting in a vehicle is something everybody does at their own risk.

If you want to pursue the "speed kills" story, perhaps it's time to go back to Victorian times and have somebody walking ahead waving a red flag...

Instead of ranting about speed, time would be better spent trying to educate drivers that multi-tasking is dangerous. Things like eating, drinking, smoking, talking, phoning etc should be banned while driving - anything which captures or divides concentration is dangerous when driving/boating/flying/diving/gliding etc.

Outside the SPAR killed it lol!

I think stories like this really push a lot of people along within their businesses online.

Chris J, I appreciate where your coming from but I don't think its fair to label everyone commenting cares for flashy things more than for people killed by drivers.

Its nice to know internet marketers like Dan can go out and rent a ferrari as for many people just starting out or thinking big, it shows what you can achieve! Even though he was maybe a little wrong stating he drove at 120mph, but other than that, this is inspiration for other people on this board!

Why did this turn into a lecture thread?

    Give the guy a break.

As if you wouldn't do that if you rented a Ferrari.

I have a car with similar power (BMW M3), and what people who don't have performance cars don't realize is that they're ENGINEERED to reliably perform and handle at speed.

Yes, some POS mustang will become unstable at high speeds and/or extreme manouvers.

But a Ferrari, or my M3, or a Porsche, etc. - that's literally what they're designed to do.

I've "excercised" mine a few times (especially on the twisties), and if you know HOW to drive well, and if you know your car and its abilities/limitations - then it's just like anything else.

It's common sense and risk management.

People that crash their exotics usually do so because they're not experienced, or because they're "showing off" in an uncontrolled environment - such as at the stoplight.

The other thing you realize when you own one is that the "fun" parts of driving a performance car can all be done legally.

Hard acceleration, intense handling/cornering, etc. Find the right road and you can do this to your heart's content without breaking the law once.

So unless you actually know what you're talking about, let the guy have his moment. If you spend more time being productive than trying to bring down someone who just fulfilled a dream - maybe you'll have a chance to actually do something cool yourself.

Instead of just slinging accusations from the sidelines.

    -Chris

P.S. Don't take my word for it. Check out the autobahn's safety record:

Autobahn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The only vehicles that are prone to accidents at speed are small trucks:

"The only identifiable source of traffic risks in connection with speeding have been high-powered, light trucks that came up within the last 15 years and as they are used by courier services (e.g. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and trucks alike). Over the years they were only capable of speeds comparable to heavy duty trucks, but since manufacturers began to build in significantly more powerful engines they attain speeds of up to 180 km/h. This led to a significant portion of fatal accidents being caused by such vehicles [7] due to the driver overestimating his or the car's ability to cope with sudden and heavy braking, side-winds, etc"

Although as I grew older, I grew very (VERY) fond of the lamborghini.

      Thankyou for the comments warriors!

Driving a ferrari has been my long life child hood dream. Every day i stimulate my mind with ferraris, i have ferrari wallpaper on my pc, ferrari models on my desk. I am a true ferrari entusiast. Ferrari mad!

I just wanted to realize my dream of knowing what it would feel like owning a ferrari. Even though it was only for a week, but i still got that feeling. And it felt great! And i dont regret one bit of it!

And its made me push ever harder towards my business and entreprenural goals.

At the end of the day, i could have gone and blown $4000 on some nice clothing for my Bday, but the ferrari was the better choice for me personally.

I know some might think it was a waste of money. But i havent done anything this cool for a long long time and it was about time i had some fun.

PLUS seeing the face on my x girlfriend when i was driving past her and her new boyfriend in an old vauxhall nova was worth every penny! LOL

that soon had her emailing me i tell you LMAO

Somebody asked if the price was including insurance. Yes it was!

I have been told if i ever bought a ferrari it would cost me around $4000 to insure. Quite cheap really. I thought it would be alot more.

      God i miss her already!

Buy the way, to anybody that thinks im some kind of maniac driver ur quite wrong. I did put my foot down a little on a open road with NOBODY around. And its not like i drive fast all the time. In fact im usually a chilled out kind of driver.

And i was only at that speed for a few seconds, and traction control was on, and it was also dry. If i had felt it was not safe to do so i wouldnt have done it. Im not stupid, plus the car has tracking so not like i can just blaze around doing 120 MPH all day long. It was just that one burst.

And in that car, it just creeps up on you, 90 MPH feels wayyyy down there.

That's my favourite part of this story. Good for you, Dan!

TBH, your story had me visiting the AutoTrader website to see how much it would cost to 'hire' one permanently... prices start at about 37K for a 1999 or 2000 model.

        Hmmmmmm, Ferrari 360....

Hey, yeah ive checked the prices on them. You can get them fairly cheap, well when i say cheap i dont mean they are peanuts but they are a fair whack cheaper than a few years ago thats for sure!

But i had this discussion with the owner of the car and he said dont always pay for the cheapest one because if there is something wrong with it it could cost you thousands more to sort it out.

    Dan,

I think it's great that you were able to treat yourself to such a thrilling
experience. This also serves as a huge inspiration to newbies such as myself
to see what possibilities there are in this business.I myself have never been able to afford to drive a car(rented or otherwise) that could reach a speed
of 120(km or otherwise) even if you were to toss it out the back of a cargo plane.I am right now envisioning myself,on my birthday, sitting in the
parking lot of my local 7-11 making a piece of Italian engineering say the
word "Rar-RAr-ree" to whatever cute shorties might be walking by.
Thanks for this post and good luck to you on your quest for the "Rarareeree"!

Nice. But dude, please tell me that in the first picture you are not about to back into another car! Also you must have reversed the orientation of the pic because the steering wheel is on the wrong side

I understand people saying that reinvesting the money back into your busniess would be the smart thing to do but:

      1. I'd be willing to bet that you do reinvest back into your business already.

      2. If you got that much happiness, satisfaction, and motivation out of the experience then how could it possibly considered a waste of money?

Way to go on realizing a dream. Maybe next year you'll buy your own Ferarri if that's what you want to do.

Dude that was excellent, and you'll have your 360 back faster than you think, with this kind of motivation there's no way to be different.
I also love Ferraris, particularly 430 Scuderia, there's no day I don't think about it. Man I wish there was more topics like that
