Tips for newcomers...

Hi so for someone who knows little to nothing about IM and all things related, I'm trying to get some insight from some of you more advanced members on some tips, suggestions, and just some general information on getting started! What methods/programs have worked better than others for you? What to avoid? Also I realize that I could read the forum before asking all of these questions but I'd really appreciate a jump start from the more experienced before getting my feet wet. Thanks...

    Hi and welcome!

Unfortunately, I don't have the perfect answer for you. I think many experienced people here will tell you they fumbled around for a while until they found a business model they enjoyed and could really work at day in and day out.

IMHO, I think the reading, the learning, the stretching, the trying on of a few shiny objects is part of how we learn what we want to do and what we don't.

Take a good look at your strengths and interests and then look at the different ways you could earn money. Keep in mind you can learn how to do anything, so don't let that thought hold you back.

Do you want to start a service such as ghostwriting, copywriting or creating graphics for websites?
Does having one authority blog appeal?
How about lots of blogs - niche marketing?
    Flipping sites?

Where do you want to start?

    Peggy

Hi Peggy! I agree with the reading and taking things in...I've definitely been doing that! I've found myself getting SO confused...how can someone have multiple blogs? Wouldn't we run out of things to talk about or keep it interesting? I run an Autism blog but...I don't even have any followers yet!!! How pathetic right? *I'm embarassed* I'm all sorts of about natural health and all things metaphysical...Honestly I'm still trying to figure out what my talents are...I am shamefully almost computer illiterate...so this is really really new to me...I find myself googling words all the time just to figure out what it is and means! I've been looking at Alibaba.com to look at merchandise because Of thought about selling on Ebay/fleamarket...but I find myself sitting there scratching my head and asking myself "OMG what should I sell, How much will I need to invest, what if I get scammed...what are signs of getting/being scammed!" Both kids are in school now and I'm just searching options to bring in more income I'm not looking to get rich if it were to happen of course it would be great but I'm completely okay with starting small and building...I'm not in a hurry, because I don't wanna fail...but I'm also the type that will drag my feet too long worried that I'll choose the wrong thing....or like I was saying earlier get scammed

      Hi Angie,

I highly recommend checking out a place called Wordpress Goldmine (affiliate link). There are a ton of videos showing how to set up blogs that earn, how to bring traffic, etc... Plus there is a helpful forum full of people who are in the same boat, or once were in the same boat. I'm a member there too.

Obviously there is some good information here...but it can be overwhelming how much and how spread out it is.

You're still in the exploring phase. That discombobulated mess feeling is completely normal. I'd recommend you find a good product and go through it from start to finish. Stick with it every single day for 30 days. Some days you're reallllly not going to want to do it, and you'll have the urge to look at another product. It's going to be an intensely strong urge that you'll find almost irresistible. Be aware of that, and resist it anyway, and sit down and do your work for the day.

Also, every product you buy will be hyped, especially the ones that say "no hype." Don't get disappointed because you didn't make $300 this week like the description said you would.

For what it's worth, I recommend doing something that will get you quick results. Staying motivated is a huge problem in the beginning, and nothing motivates like a little cash in the piggy bank.

As part of the learning phase, try and space out your content writing into paragraphs so that it can be more appealing to readers. This will be of help to you in your blog posts and article marketing

Compare your posts to that of others and the difference should be clear.

      Cheers.

I would agree with the previous poster regarding Wordpress Goldmine. I have learnt so much over there and it has one of the friendliest forums that you will find anywhere in the IM niche.

        Cheers

I was totally new to computers and to IM - the answer to that is to educate yourself a bit at a time. Use google to find any term you don't understand and read until you figure it out. Learn to use the search function on this forum to be able to find specific info on certain topics and read until your head almost bursts with info.

Don't worry about sharks and don't buy shiny new "fast money" crap - just learn and work on your blog as you learn.

There is no way to go from brand new to experienced marketer without the learning/trying/failing/doing that we all go through.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

  • Hi Angie,

We too are relatively new to the world of IM and have experienced exactly what you have. We realised that although you have to learn about the industry, too much time can be spent learning and little time actually doing and putting what you learn into practice.

My advice would be to pick a strategy i.e. Facebook or video marketing while your reading and learning about them document everything, turn what you have learnt into blog posts, articles and even short videos. You can then use these as a vehicle to advertise your blog and before long affiliate and maybe your own products.

If you need any other advice, don't hesitate to ask.

As others have pointed out above, start by reading and learning to get a big picture of the different business models available. But be careful with information overload.

Take action as soon as possible. Once you find something you like, try it out.

Chances are that you fail more than one time before you star making money. But be patience. It is part of the process.

Many system works, but bot all them work for everybody. The most important thing is to choose something you like, because you will have to work hard (no matter what many people say, there is not magic button to make money fast and easy).

Look for your system with a business mindset. You want something suitable of generating a steady income online and this is only possible in you think of internet marketing as a business.

    Tips that helped me

    1) come to warrior forum each day

    2) Come to warrior forum each day

    3) read

    4) read some more until you fall asleep at computer

    5) wake up infront of computer turn off warrior forum and implement what you have just learnt.

    6) watch money come into your account.

I did this over 6 years ago.....and it worked wonders.

But the most important step in all of this....step 5 take action. If you keep reading you little mind will be on INFO OVERLAOD and nothing gets done, then you go outside and do other stuff.

TAKE ACTION! the more you take as a newbie the more results you are going to get. Fail a little or fail alot...doesnt matter then you know what not to do or what you suck at.

    good luck.

Angie, when I first started I was told to make a list of everything i loved to do, knew something about, or had a passion about. From there you study those things and think about if any of those are things you could see yourself working with every single day.

Is it something that will help people, or give them some kind of entertainment? Just think about what you do know, and add some study and research to it, and you will be the "go-to" person in that field.

Here is the BIG thing to remember. If your first niche doesn't turn out to be what you want - start over and do the same thing again.

I am interested to that to and the answers are really helpful. I do know a little bit about IM terminology but I haven't made any money at all for the moment.
Thanks for the advice and the sources!

I didn't make a dime until I focused on one system. This took me 11 months to finally find a focus. Many people here will tell you to avoid jumping around from shiny object to shiny object, but I believe all of my jumping around gave me insight into what I liked and now focus on. I wish I could get my money back from all of my failures, but seeing my first sales recently gives me hope it won't be long until I do. My suggestion is don't look for the quick buck. I did this for several months and believe it has hurt my reputation as I have used my real name from day one. So, be real, honest and treat people right and you will get somewhere. Just my thoughts.
