Reason for purchasing multiple domain endings/one website?

okay... this is embarrassing, but I've spent last hour on WF trying to find the answer and am coming up empty-handed.

So...here goes:

Is there a good reason for purchasing multiple domain endings for the same website?

It is only important to get the major TLDs (.com, .net .org), if you're building a website that you intend to keep long term, or one that you're trying to brand. This prevents others from registering them.

Otherwise, just the .COM is all you need.

Thanks Gene! Yes, my intention is to keep long term and build a brand. I was curious to know if there were any other benefits to purchasing multiple domain endings other than preventing others from registering.

Agree with Gene on the main domain extensions. I'll add a few more comments:

        1) these domain extensions are typically easier to rank
        2) .com - generally strongest for general purpose wesbites
        3) .org - useful for those companies who can't get .com. BUT, also "trusted" by visitors, because they think this is generally for non-profits
        3) .net - third choice of the three

When we register our celebrity brands we tend to take out all three IF they are available. The reason? We've had scammers try to leverage the celebrity brand by putting up mirror sites. And, they do this also on FB, as well.

    Hello,

Gene just beat me to the punch. His statements mirror what I was going to say.

Gene, always good to see you pop in when domain topics come up.

    All The Very Best,
