Trademarked? Copyright? Bears O' My!

Hello Warriors,

I've just recently started a new project and before I dove head first into it, I was wanting to see if anyone could tell me about the DO's and DO NOT's of using video clips on your site.

I'm putting up a site for a certain niche and I'm wanting to use various video clips on the site that pertain to the niche. These are clips I would pull from YouTube and Vimeo, etc. If YouTube is hosting these videos, then there is no issue with me using the videos on my site, correct?

I'm just wanting to avoid any sort of legal ramification for using these videos, etc. Thanks for the input!

If you are linking to a You Tube video using their embedded player on your site, then yes there is no problem with this. You cannot make any changes to the functionality of the embedded player, such as removing the link back to You Tube to keep users on your site.

Their TOS spells all of this out and more rather clearly.

Me personally I like to create my own videos and keep the visitors locked into my site, not offering them a link to another site out of my control. I know may not be possible for everyone.

Thanks. I'm using a plugin that makes it easier to watch the videos on my actual site. I think it's a pretty nice feature and hopefully will keep people on the site. Just wanted to make sure I was good to go before I continued forward.
