Some Help on how to setup FREE digital download for my ebook

Hi Guys,

Sorry to bother you all, but it is the small details that seem to stump me most lol.
I wish to build my list the usual way, by providing a FREE download through an optin form or page.
What is the best way to do this ? I dont really want to host the ebook on my site, as I want a unique download link everytime to avoid people bypassing the optin page.
I contacted ejunkie but they say they are not the best way of providing a free download. How do you guys do it ? Where do you host your downloads etc ? Has anyone used (or still using) getdpd.com ?

cheers,

Gary

If you don't want people to bypass your opt-in page,
then don't send people to a page that contains the
      ebook right after they opt-in.

Instead, send them to a page that tells them to check
their e-mail and inside that e-mail give them a link to
      the location of their ebook.

That way, only people who enter their real e-mail
address will be able to access the ebook.

If it's a freebie, I can't see the point in using a unique
download link each time - it just overcomplicates things.

If you're using AWeber with double opt-in, then the
      process will look like this...

      Opt-in Page -> Confirm Page -> Confirm E-mail -> Link in E-mail -> Download Page

You could use something like DLGuard to further protect
your freebie, but I think it's a case of using a sledgehammer
      to crack a walnut.

      Simple is your friend!

      • thanks for the help shaun. I was thinking of using a unique link each time, to avoid sharing of the download link too. One person could optin and then share the link with others on a forum or something....guess im too distrusting of people.

        cheers,

If you want a unique download link each time then you
can use something like DLGuard to create that link for
          you.

Also, if you place the ebook in a folder above the
public_html folder then you can ensure that your
download link will not be web-accessible or indexed
          in the search engines.

This way, only people who've signed-up can access
          your download via DLGuard.

However, once people have downloaded your ebook,
if they are keen to share it then they will upload it
themselves to a file sharing site.

I could understand taking further security measures
for a paid ebook but for a freebie it's not worth the
          extra hassle IMO.

Nice question Gary. I am struggling with all this myself. I just setup the AWeber autoresponder on my WordPress blog, which was a problem in and of itself. I opted to provide new subscribers with a free eBook right after they subscribed. They would be taken to a 'Thank you' page after entering their email on the form. From there, AWeber is setup to send them a follow-up message with info [link] on accessing the free eBook. Now my problem is hosting the ebook files for download by subscribers, as my blog is not self-hosted.

I tried outsourcing much of this, but became impatient with trying to find help on fiverr.com.

No offense but your reply made me spit my tea.

You became frustrated with trying to get people to do complicated programming and setup for you and you were offering them $5? Of which they get $4?

For less than the price of a latte at Starbucks, you expect world class service? Have we really come so far from understanding the value proposition?

Again, I apologize if my statement offends you but I think we might all need to get a grip. Would you even cross the street for $4? I wouldn't.

If your ebook contains valuable content, and affiliate links to products people will find useful , this can be profitable if people do share your books, it is quite difficult to police digital downloads, just ask the big software companies they spend hundreds of thousands if not millions on safeguarding against illegal downloads yet people still share their stuff.

If you spend too much time trying to stop people sharing your book you are only slowing down your productivity, instead find ways to profit from these thieves .
