I'm new to listbuilding and autoresponders. I have an opt-in page, but so far only one person has chosen to opt-in.

I don't really have any autoresponders set up currently, but I was wondering, if someone leaves a comment on my blog and they leave their email, is it bad form to add that to my contact list? Is it considered spam to contact them or is that why the email field is there?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Is Aweber worth my while at this point in the game or should I use a free one until I start making some significant money?

I personally wouldn't send someone an email that commented on my blog unless they asked me to, but maybe I'm more timid than some.

Just get your squeeze page setup and start driving traffic to it from everywhere, then once people request more information from you, you can email them no problem.

I would definitely recommend getting aweber or a similar autoresponder as soon as you can though, they are an essential tool.

      Hi,

I have a client who responds to comments on her blog and mentions her newsletter and asks them to subscribe if they are interested. It seems to work. That way she doesn't get accused of spamming them.

Have you considered that anyone could just leave someone else's details?

For a very cost effective autoresponder you might want to check Leslie Gibbon's Professional Autoresponders WSO.

It is bad form to email someone that commented on your blog. If you have your comment form integrated as your opt in then it is fine, just make sure that you tell them to leave a comment and you will send them something. It is easiest to give them something for free as incentive for opting in. You have to get some good targeted traffic if you want to build your list though. Work on your backlinking and other strategies to get more traffic and then set up a paid autoresponder. AWebber is $1 for the first month so if you can get your traffic together set up everything else at the same time and get started right.
