Do You Fight Against What Works

Lately I seem to be caught in the turmoil of fast link building or letting my sites settle into the search engines naturally. I've been trying to be patient and not build links to my sites. However, I realized that when I do build links quickly, I make sales quickly . . . and while my sites might dance in Google like crazy, they'll still eventually settle.

I guess there's always the fear of . . . what might work better? But since I'm currently unemployed/selfemployed . . . it seems that blasting my sites with links for quick sales would be the wiser thing to do since I need the sites to be making money right now and can't really afford to wait for them to settle naturally into the search engines before I start backlinking.

What are your thoughts on following methods that you've seen that work for you when others say that you'll get a better return if you do things a different way even if it doesn't yield immediate results?

I think the idea of waiting and letting your sites settle into the search engines is based around the work smarter not harder concept. Still, when you need money right now, isn't it better to work harder and save the smarter part for later on down the road when you can afford to cool your jets?

Just curious on your thoughts.

Why in the world would you choose to either work smart, or work hard? It should be quite obvious that the combination of both is far more likely to accelerate your results than any other option.

The only time that building links faster is a bad idea is when you do it really badly. In other words, if you create a campaign that is so obviously spam that Google penalizes you for it, then you did something stupid.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you are building your links yourself, rather than outsourcing the work. If that's the case, then I'm happy to tell you that you are highly unlikely to have your site penalized for link building.

In order to do that, you need to have some powerful tools, and you need to use them like a moron.

    Constant improvement.

The first step is getting something out there. When you get the baseline for its success, you tweak, and compare the new results to the old.

Are the better? Keep. Are they worse? Dump.

It's like evolution or natural selection - you never have to wonder if 'something out there is better' because you're constantly working towards that illusive "best."
