What marketing skills must I master

I think many people will agree when I say you must master the art of patience and perseverance to the best of your ability.

Here's a few things, as others have mentioned, that are of importance when creating/making money off websites:

- Keyword research - Ask yourself if the keywords you are going after, are relevant to a person which wants to purchase/indulge in your particular niche. Understand that in order to get a more realistic idea of the traffic for the keywords you are researching, you should look at the 'exact match' statistics only. If you target the wrong keywords you have fallen at the frontline.

- Customer psychology - Consider what mindset the customer is in for your niche, what do you think they would expect when they land on your page? Would they want short accurate information or a large choice of information? Would they like to see a neatly designed website with a nice layout or would a sales type page better suit their needs? These are a just a few questions you can think to get the ball rolling.

- Writing - Writing skills are of a great importance to marketing, while many people purchase articles, sometimes simply to save time, you can never ignore the need for the ability to better yourself at writing as it is used in many facets of the online world. I am gradually putting more effort into always trying to improve my writing bit by bit, it is slowly becoming better and in turn, will help increase my sales. After all, what is the online world about, content.

- The need to learn - It is important to always try to keep up-to-date and have the need to learn new things in the world of online business, as the surface of the landscape can change very fast.

- Creativeness - Applying what is successful and making it your own, being creative with it, this make you stand out and I think being creative is great for marketing. After all some of the most successful people in the industry all had creative ways of doing things (which now don't exactly sound so creative ) I believe subtle creative details and changes can go a long way, so I always try to make little changes when I can and see what works.

There are many more skills that can always help. Infact, I think just about any skill can be applied to marketing (alright minus one or two ), but those are just a few that I think are important.

In the long run if you wanna make the big bucks then the money is in salesmanship, copywriting and list building. I'd recommend you get 'Writing Riches' by Ray Edwards so you learn how to write things that sell and look to build your list every day.

Precisely my thoughts. I think what you need for now are not marketing skills, but business ones. What's your biz plan?

If you're doing a content site that's going to be a social networking site, you need to budget at least 3-5 years for your site to become an authority site. With FRESH UNIQUE content every single day, an army of backlink builders, and competent tech developers. And then, there's still no guarantee of success because the market may just shift at that time.

So my advice? Figure if you got the time and resources to commit 3-5 years to your project before thinking about seeing any results if you're going to authority site route.

Forget copywriting, traffic generation, and list building. Find out if its even feasible. Persistence is great. But in this case, it's LOOOONNNG DRAAAWNN out persistence, so strategy is more important than marketing for now.
