Would You Buy This Domain?

I found a domain name that gets 12,500 monthly searches. It's a city name + schools. For example PhiladelphiaSchools.com. That's not the one, but you get the idea. The city that's available has a population of around 100,000, not including the suburbs. I hesitate, because I'm not sure how to monetize it. Any thoughts? Thanks for your input.

I can't answer that directly, but I doubt the statistics you've quoted.

I suspect you have the keyword tool set to broad match. Approx 1/10th of the population of the town simply can't be searching for "yourtown schools" every month!

After that, the questions I would ask myself are:
    1) how many schools are there?
    2) is it likely they would be willing to pay for an ad?
    3) if you don't want to take ads from the schools, do you know enough about them to write articles and then use, for example, adsense? - in which case....
    4) when you input that search term, what kind of ads are displayed?

Also think creatively - are there companies that supply uniforms, school accessories or other products that might like to advertise on the site.

    No.

For the same reason you are hesitant. How are you going to monetize it? I don't see a reason to invest time and money in a niche that doesn't have much monetization value.

Could you make money with the site? I'm sure somebody could think of something but I can't, at least not something that is going to make it worth while.

I might change my mind if I did a little research and looked at similar sites to see what they are doing. Could be a goldmine and I'm completely missing the obvious.
