Default Free and simple texteditor for Mac?

One of my friends asking for a free text editor for his Mac.

I searched the forums and Google. Came up with these. But no idea which one is good. He wants a free one. Any one of these you recommend or is there any other simple text editor for Mac?

Taco is good. So is bbEdit Light - which is free. bbEdit also has Text Wrangler.

Taco Software - Taco HTML Edit for Mac OS X

bbEdit Light used to be free - I'm not sure if it is anymore. However, Barebones has a free trial offer for the full bbEdit program. Here is a site that has a free download link - not sure if it works as I didn't try it out. http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/bbedit-light.html

Text Wrangler is free, and excellent. I think Taco has a free trial, but is not free after end of trial period.

TEXT WRANGLER from Barebones is what I use for almost everything.

Bare Bones Software | TextWrangler

Open Office can handle more complex word processing needs.

All success

I second Text Wrangler. That's what I use everyday.

Mac already has a text editor built into the system ..TextEdit is standard on Macs.

You can always download and use TextWrangler if he is looking for something with more functions..
