Best Way to Build New Site for Existing Domain - Wordpress

I want to build a whole new website for my online business, but I don't want the domain to be down while I'm doing that. Keeping in mind that I'm using Wordpress, I'm thinking about just building the site on another one of my unused domain and then transferring it over when I'm satisfied - this way the site for my business never needs to be offline.

Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks!
James

That is a good idea. Just make sure that you correct any links internally. Also be sure to block the search engines from viewing the other website on that domain to avoid duplicate content.

And you may want to take a look at BackupBuddy as an easy and secure way of moving your site across.

I've the habit of building the WordPress sites on sub-directories ... once I'm happy with it, I'll map it over to my existing or newly purchased domain.

And yes, I'm an avid supporter of WordPress ... definitely the best flexible platform.

This is what I would go with. If you are lazy and aren't trying to rank the site on Google I would build it on a subdirectory and then turn the main domain into a redirect.

    http://www.yoursite.com and http://www.yoursite.com/blog

This way you can work on both and later merge the two to your main site or leave it as is.

Give ManageWP.com a try - it's probably the most valuable free resource I ever found

Seems like this could be a great tool in the future but I'm finding it has a lot of bugs. I cloned my site and moved it over, and the template is now out of proportion - not to mention I can't view any pages except the home page....

Have any issues with that before?

Thank you for sharing this site. Hope it will work good for people who are not expert of WP and managing many WP blogs. I will too give it a try.

Please permit me to use this medium to ask this question. What theme is used here.

The website -digitalspacemarketing DOT co DOT uk.

Apparently, the company shares almost same name with mine and in almost offering same service. What I like here is the theme, is it customised yet or could anyone tell what theme that is.

Or better still, with the same concept, would anyone suggest a better theme.

        Cheers

Check out Premium WordPress Themes and Web Templates - ThemeForest (not an affiliate link). I've seen and used similar-looking themes from there, and at $35 for a one-time use, it's not a bad deal at all.

Try the right-click on your mouse > and select View Source... the READ the source code until you find this:

          HTML Code:
          <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://digitalspacemarketing.co.uk/wp-content/themes/Phenomenon/style.css" type="text/css" />
There you have the theme name!

    To the OP:
Install XAMPP (from apachefriends) on your machine and you will have a fully functional local "server" running PHP, MySQL etc. to test any php+database driven script, including WP.
