Ezine Articles Publisher Terms Changed?

15 replies
Every now and again I re-read the t&c's for the various programs I participate in and I spotted this on the ezinearticles site:

"You are not required to include the Google ads that are found on our site when you reprint any article from our site, but you must respect the 25 reprint limit per year."

The first part of this sentence is laughable because it is against Google's terms to put adsense ads on sites you don't own.

But the second part is new to me. Previously I'd seen the 25 per year clause for GoArticles - which is why I don't use their articles on my sites; but I wasn't aware EZA also specified this condition.

I presume it means 25 reprints total from the EZA directory. That's maybe just enough content for one or two niche sites. :confused:

Anyone ever been "pulled up" by EZA for breaking the 25 max rule?

    I am curious too..

    Earlier I remember some warriors recommend putting your own's EZA articles on the websites you own. I am wondering the rule you mentioned applied to authors too?

    If they are your own articles they cannot specify whether or not you use them on your own site and theirs, so you are fine with using your own to whatever level you choose even if they are also published on EZA.

      Last I read it was 25 per site, 10 sites max for a total of 250.

      But that could have changed.

    I guess you went a while without reading the terms, since they had the 25 limit at least 2 years ago.

    I know someone who has over 500 EZA articles on EACH of his 30 free blogger blogs and this has never been a problem to him. Earns him about $400/mo. from adsense too.

      I thought simply re publishing someone elses article would be considered by Google to be duplicate content?

      that's why I avoided using any articles from those directories

      I thought they were only of use as an incoming link for SEO

      ... so you know someone who uses EZA as blog posts and he still makes adsense money from the blogspot blogs?

      really?

      if so, you just made my life a lot easier

        David,

        It's my understanding that Google only has a problem with duplicate content if it appears multiple times on the same domain. They're not so concerned with duplicate content on different domains.

        I had always assumed the same as you until someone here on WF cleared it up for me awhile back. Now I do make sure my articles get into as many directories as possible.

    That has been the rule for quite some time. Although they're probably counting on the honor system for regulating actual usage. It also gives them the basis to take action against anyone who blatantly disregards their terms if the situation arises.

    Hehehe...you must not have read Google Adsense terms in a while either. You don't have to own the site the ads are placed on. :-)

      This is very true. I once bought a wordpress theme, where the creator sneakily added their publisher id to the adsense ads under the menu items. I have to admit, that was a pretty good idea though.

        I know people with 100's of eza articles on a site as well.

        I bet they are just protecting themselves in case someone grabbed all the articles and tried to build a quick instant EZA clone. They would have a strong legal case.

          Could be...but that would be covered under normal copyright?

      I disagree. Just re-read the terms again and they refer continually to 'Your Propertires...'

      <-- Quote -->

You agree to comply with the specifications provided by Google from time to time to enable proper delivery, display, tracking, and reporting of Ads, Links, Search Results, Referral Buttons, and Google Brand Features (as defined in Section 12 below) in connection with Your Property(ies), including without limitation by not modifying the JavaScript or other programming provided to You by Google in any way, unless expressly authorized in writing by Google (including by electronic mail)...

      ....AdSense for Search. If You have elected to receive Search Results, You will display on Your Property(ies) a Google search box (a "Search Box") in accordance with the specifications provided by Google. Except for related Google queries, all search queries (including queries entered into an Ad search box) must originate from individual human end users inputting data directly into a Search Box (or Ad search box, as applicable) on Your Property(ies).

      5. Prohibited Uses.
      (vi) directly or indirectly access, launch, and/or activate Ads, Links, Search Results, or Referral Buttons through or from, or otherwise incorporate the Ads, Links, Search Results, or Referral Buttons in, any software application, Web site, or other means other than Your Property(ies), and then only to the extent expressly permitted by this Agreement;

      If 'Your Property' doesn't mean a web site you own, then what does it mean?:confused:

        Can I put my ad code on someone else's website? Can I have someone else's ad code on my site?

        Publishers are permitted to place ad code from different AdSense accounts on the same page as long as the owner of the website has given permission for ads to be placed on their site, and the webpage complies with our program policies.

        A publisher will only be credited for clicks and impressions on the ad units associated with their account. Additionally, publishers are responsible for monitoring each webpage upon which their ad code appears to ensure compliance with our policies.
