A friend recently told me she read that anyone who has made $1 online constitutes just one of the 15% of internet marketers that are actually making money online. That makes for pretty sad reading. As I write, there are over five thousand warriors online and there are other forums as well. That is a lot of people trying and failing, to make money online. As such, I decided to write this guide to help some of the 85% make a little cash online and quickly too. It will mainly benefit newbies as it is an old system but then that also means it is tried, tested and trusted. It will not make you the eye watering figures quoted on a lot of threads/forums but I know from experience that when starting out in this industry, every little helps.

You will be able to make more money faster if you have some cash to invest but there are a lot of newbies without the money or even time to invest. Therefore, I am assuming that unlike an entrepreneur I read about recently, whose dad lent him $850,000 to start a restaurant, you can't go to family members or friends. In my case, they thought I was nuts to spend whole days in front of my laptop rather than looking for work. What they failed to realize was that I was working harder and longer than they were at the time. And I wanted to be free. Today I do not need to wake up at silly o'clock or spend money and hours in traffic :-)

Enough of that, let's get down to business. Below are outlines for what you need to know and do.

  • Look for a niche
  • Research chosen niche for Keywords
  • Look for a product or service in your niche
  • Locate your target market and where they are online
  • Promote your product/service
  • Receive your payments

It really is that simple. But I have to add, as simple as this is, if you do not start it and see it through, you will not make a penny.

1. Look for a popular niche.

By popular niche, I mean people(your potential customers) are searching for products in that niche and other people are providing these products to sell to them. A common fallacy making the rounds is that you should choose a niche in your area of interest. Yes, it helps if you have a genuine interest in that field but it is not essential. Your persistence and f determination to succeed is more important. Below are some popular niches you can start with.

Heart Attacks
How to _____(this niche is as LARGE as it is popular)
Car Insurance
Acne
Pig Farming
Play a violin
Make Money online
Debt problems
Dieting

There are a LOT of other niches besides these. How do you find them? Here are a few pointers. There are other ways apart from this especially if you have the cash to invest in tools/software. But as we have no money, I will only give you tools/software that are free.

Clickbank - Go to the marketplace and choose a category from the left
hand side of the page or you can do a custom search.
Ebay - Look for sold items in any category and
Amazon - Look for their hottest products
Dummies - This is especially useful for 'How To' Niches

2. Research chosen niche for Keywords
When you have found a niche, you need to research it to find relevant keywords. I know of no better way to do this than to use Google's free keyword tool. Market research has never been easier. This will show you the different ways/words which your potential clients use to search for products you will start selling/promoting, as well as the competition by providers(you are about to become one). A quick note on the keyword tool. A lot of 'experts' say that you should go for the keywords with no competition. I disagree with this on the premise that the market determines demand and supply - this is the basics of all business. Using this backdrop will hopefully help you see why some words have no competition - they most probably have been tested and found not to convert into sales. Some of them may convert well, but you do not have the time or money to find out by trial and error. Also, make sure you perform exact searches. This is achieved by ticking 'Exact' on the middle of the right hand column when you get to the Google's keyword tool home page.

3. Look for a product or service in your niche
Although you have found a niche, do not assume that any and all products made for that niche will sell. You need to research products made for your chosen niche so you can choose one that at least has a decent chance of selling. The best, free way to do this is by using Cickbank (affiliate marketing). For total newbies, clickbank is a marketplace where product makers display their products for marketers and sales people(called affiliates) to sell on their behalf and earn a preset commission which is between 1% and 75% of the sales price. According to the website, a sale is made every 3 seconds. Look for products in the niche you have decided to target. You will do well to choose products with a high gravity number- this is proof of affiliates having successfully sold the product and they have been paid their commission. Effectively, the gravity rating is a lot of research done for you. Buckle down and do the research, choose a product and you are good to go.

4. Locate your target market and where they are online
Next, you have to find your target market. A few years ago this will have cost thousands of dollars and potentially months. Today, you just need a connected laptop/desktop. Starting at Google or any other search engine, look for forums in your niche, for instance for weight-loss, look for weight loss forums; for dog training, look for dog training forums. Another way to find them is through Yahoo Answers, Google Groups and of course, the increasingly popular social media, facebook and twitter. Twitter is especially effective. All you need to do is type in the hashtag followed by your niche eg. For debt problems, go to twitter and type in '#debt problems' and twitter brings up a hopefully long list of mostly real people that have typed in things to do with your niche.

5. Promote your product/service
Having found a market place filled with people looking for your product, send them a nice friendly message with a link to your product. With Yahoo answers, answer the questions that are related to your niche and/or product

6. You will have to repeat 4 and 5 several times because the potential clients in forums, yahoo answers twitter are constantly growing. You will also do well to find another niche and repeat all the above steps.

I hope this helps.
