Lots of People Only Half-opting in...why??

Hey guys,

As some of you may know, I just recently launched a new video squeeze page for a seduction product I made. By signing up to my list, prospects receive a full 1-hour long video of a seminar I gave about a month ago.

In the last 48 hours however, nearly every one of my opt ins are unverified. When they opt in, they get sent to this page where I feel I've made it VERY clear how to finish their opt in.

Is it just a fluke or is there a better way for me to clarify how they can opt - in for the seminar?

The video squeeze is in my signature and the first opt-in page that they get sent to after sign up is here:

How to Seduce Women, How to Attract Women, How to Meet Women

Thanks guys for your input. I am a very confused IMer right now and would really love to know, is this just a fluke, or can I do something better??

Regards to all warriors!

Noah

    Hey Noah,

It's a common problem in a double optin environment. I have a a decent amount of people on my list that NEVER confirmed and probably never will. I make it explicitly clear that they need to confirm, but they don't. Perhaps they are using trash email addresses, etc. Try saying: "Give your primary email address" or giving some instructions (text) before the actual submit button. See the site in my sig for an example.

    All the best,

      Hi Eric,

I tried changing to "Primary Email", instead of "Email Address", just to see how the optin confirmation increase.

  • This is fairly common with double opt in subscription services.

To increase your verified opt ins, try this:

    1) Create a video on your thank you page that shows people what your email looks like or take a screen shot of the email and insert that. Whatever you do don't use the standard thank you page.

    2) Change the subject heading of the confirmation email to something like "Here's Your Seduction Ebook" or something similar (don't use the word 'free' in your subject heading or your email will be filtered).

If you implement these techniques you should see a serious improvement in your opt in rate.

Sorry to hear about your low conversions. I also experience that too, but often times I see people coming back and filling in a second, legit email. I don't know if somethings wrong, or that's just something more related to the niche you are in?

As far as my experience in IM, I've had a pretty decent double optin rate, and people don't get the free tool I'm handing out without it.

Thanks for the replies all, much appreciated.

I'll definitely look into making it even clearer how to opt in properly.

      Thanks again!

I've tested double opt-in and single opt-in methods. My opt-ins did shoot up after I used the single opt-in method and it is a riskier method due to the fact that people can put in a fake or someone elses email address.

However, I have never received any complaints by using the single opt-in method via Aweber. I would receive 1 complaint every few weeks for broadcast messages and this has never led to my emails being blacklisted by ISP's nor my service being affected by Aweber.

My advice would be to test both methods. If single opt-ins don't lead to complaints due to dubious email addresses being submitted, then stick to that.

          Abul,

Thanks for the reply, it's definitely something I'd consider checking out if this trend continues.

          Coolwebsites,

I'd have to agree and disagree with that. In the IM niche, I can agree that opting in for small bits of info is played out, and I wouldn't want to. In other niches I feel people are asked to opt in so rarely it doesn't have that same affect on them. To them, they are just "signing up" not opting-in.

Just my 2 cents on that.

Thanks again all for your responses!

    Not sure but...

    Personally I think it's over-kill.

The first impression is that I've arrived at the home page.
Confirm? How do I do that?

I think a simple re-direct from the generic confirmation page would work.

Actually, I'd say it's because it is 'annoying' to constantly have to opt-in. Nowadays "everyone" is demanding personal information (i.e., name, e-mail, etc) -- and then if someone just wants to get some simple information they then have to 'log-in' to check their e-mail, click another link, etc. Basically you are making them jump through hoops, and a lot of people are tired of it so just more ignore it now unless they think it is very important information that they really need.

You could try adding "confirmation required" on your actual optin page and see if the rates change.
Also you could test removing the Thank You on the confirmation page. I find that using a Thank You interjects completion. Instead just try using the must confirm type.

      Hey Noah,

I added a video walking them through the process and an actual screen shot of the email and it has really helped! Here is mine:

That's a great idea Alan and well done. Thanks for sharing that!
Did you find it increased confirmations "after you added this", or did you have it integrated from the get go?

        Cheers

I just added it for that site but I did this in another site last month and I haven't had any non-confirming optins since but it's only been a month or so. It's easy to do so anything that can cut back on folks not completing the optin process is worth doing.

One things is to mind your verbiage. The example above was for the IM niche but for my non-IM lists I wouldn't use terms like optin and list. I would keep the video more vanilla.

I'm also having the same problems with double-optin, quite a few people opt-in and then never confirm their email.

Great tips here, i'm going to try some of them:
