Information overflow - how do you sort it out?

I have a tough, and more of a hipothetical question...how do you find what is the best suited approach to the different areas IM has to offer? I mean, do you split-test everything, or is there a way to sort out the best available methods to achieve different goals?

The huge amount of contradicting information in this forum alone - different opinions, new techniques vs. proven, but perhaps not effective anymore methods, and etc. - it's really difficult to know where to invest your time in.

There probably isn't a magical solution...but what to emphacise when using your precious time?..

And an additional question - is there any recourse that would try to shed light on the internet marketing business as a whole, explain how it works and try to take an objective outlook on the different business implementation methods?

You use filters (industry experts, and legitimate reviews) to point
you in the right general direction, choose a path, make a plan,
and then tune 95% of the noise out.

You can't afford to worry about keeping up with all of the latest
changes, or that you'll miss out on something. Knowledge is
growing exponentially, an no one can really keep up.

    Focus.

You have to pick a system/biz model and work it until you know it will or wont work...

Hard to pick one but just find something that interests you and don't buy anything else or try anything else until you make it work or are satisfied that it won't work...

Put your blinders on and go to work....

    Cheers

Building a list is the best long term solution, if you're looking to build a business online.

You could just contact the people in your signature, I'm sure they could set you on the right path.

Well, you see, I offer a basic service of providing the seekers to the providers of services and this matter, as I said in my previous post, is more a theoretical one and should be viewed from that perspective. I am not really looking for conrete solutions, I am interested in established internet marketers sharing their views on how to filter-out the constant flow of information going your way?

That is why it's so amazing to see, how internet business is different from any other business - you can actually get a responce on your thread by a legend like Willie Crawford himself

True story... there was a martial artist who went to a mastermind meeting to see if he could increase the size of his school. He went there and told them he was having problems with his conversions because only 4 people joined in the last month.

They told him he had bigger problems than conversions.

ie. He must have had very little lead flow.

Sometimes you have to focus on what's important right now... if you've got very little traffic then you're wasting your time on conversions because you've got bigger problems to sort out first.

Dont mean to be cryptic but that helped me a lot.

That is good advise to follow

I remember reading somewhere that when you start out you should spend your time 50% on learning and 50% on applying, later on reduce the learning to 30%. Not sure as if it's a good model to follow, as there wouldn't be too much to apply in the beginning and some degree of basic understanding of the concepts should be gained before proceeding to actually putting it into practice.

Agree. So every hour you spend learning, spend an hour applying it. True learning comes when you start applying stuff you've learnt. Also, this is probably the best way to sort out what works and what doesn't for yourself. Yes, it's good to read about what other gurus do but just because it's a good model for them doesn't mean it will work for you. So when you read stuff, go through courses, try to pick up 'aha' moments that you can immediately see yourself applying to your own situation and then go ahead and do it.

    Gediminas - I "get" it.

Trying to figure out where to devote your time, money, and
energy is about as fun as watching ice melt. And, to be blunt...

there IS no one proven way that will help you filter the gold
    from the dirt. Because...

"Who's to say what's gold, and who's to say whats dirt?"

Perception. Beliefs. Personal Ideas. All play a critical part pick-
ing what works for you. What works for ME, may not work for
    you.

It's easy for those with experience to say, "well, get an idea on
what you want, and go from there...". But...

you can't KNOW what you want UNTIL you try a few ideas and
get out there on the field to swing a bat, throw a football, or hit
    a golf ball.

It's "rare" to KNOW which direction you want to go unless you
have a heightened "consciousness" and a developed sense of
understanding on which direction to take ( facebook or google
    founders)...

but if you're like MOST people, "trial and error" will be your best
friend - rather you like it. Or not...

    UNTIL...you learn. To trust. YOURSELF.

Personally, I meditate. I connect myself on a spiritual level and
ask for guidance in a sea of choppy waters. Sounds corny. But,
    it's MY way.

Some people take a more ANALYTICAL approach, and I tend to
do a combination of both research AND spiritual guidance.

Generally, no matter WHAT I tell you will work for you, if YOU do
not feel or believe it'll work for you -- you won't do it. Naturally,
you would gravitate to information that better suites where you
    are "right now".

So, if you are of the "Get Rich Quick" mindset -- you'll see more
of THOSE opportunities and information. On an subconscious level
    you ATTRACTED bullsh!t.

If you are of the "Build A REAL Business" mindset -- you know not
to go anywhere NEAR certain information (or, take much of it to
heart like some of the stuff on this forum) with a 10-foot pole.

I know it's "vague", but it's my answer to how I handle what used
to be an issue for ME too -- with relative ease today.

I'm typically just ignoring everything and beating my own path right now. May not be the best method, but it is totally the cheapest as opposed to blindly purchasing "guides."

This is exactly what you should do. I'm sure you've read through enough content and tactics here on the WF to have the essential knowledge.

You will learn BY FAR the most and BY FAR the fastest but just starting to implement different things and pushing forward, and by limiting yourself to 30 min of "learning" each day, and forcing yourself to do at least 4 hours of "doing" each day.

Most people get it the other way around and convince themselves that reading the WF for hours a day is learning and worthwhile, when actually producing content and just "figuring it out" would be a far more valuable use of their time.

What I've found in the last 7+ years online is that it's best to focus on one project at a time. There's so much noise and so much that you can get distracted with. If you focus on just one thing at a time and go deep into it then you'll know what works and what doesn't. Also, if you plan on purchasing a course to learn something make sure the person offering it is speaking from their own experience.

Hope that helps & talk soon,

    David.

I found that things began to come together once I wrapped my head around the core tasks of:
    • Generating Content. You know, providing stuff your audience is hungry for.
    • Generating Traffic. Using search and your niche community to drive traffic to your site.
    • Generating Income. Implementing monetization strategies that work for you personally and your niche.
I know it's not easy when you're just starting out -- so much info, but not so much in putting it all together so one can develop their own way. Frustrating for sure.

Hope that helps in some small way. I wish you the best of luck.

IMO, the first step to being successful with ANY online marketing effort is learnign how to

    build a web site
    get traffic

Looks easy, but if you can do these two things, you are on your way to generating income online.

Whether you're building a site for Adsense, Amazon, affiliate, ClickBank, list building, or any other reason, it's not going to be successful if you can't get eyeballs on it, and that means traffic.

If you can build a site and get traffic to it, you are on your way to earning income online.

I've been contemplating getting away from here for a while coz i go stir crazy from the noise and confusion and the free offers in the war room and the great offers on the wso forum...it does slow you down...

Luckily i have a more traditional business I'm launching (lol it is traditional compared to lots of IM but it is online totally so not bricks and mortar......but does seem traditional when on here) soon so i wont have much choice but i've been here lately on a learning curve and i have found it hard.

I cancelled a trial yesterday for one of the best things i've seen on here coz i just don't have the time to do it justice if i'm being honest but i think it is a real winner.

I think it was a step forward for me
