typical 'marketing' letter conversion?

Hi,

I'm curious (again, new here, I hope you don't mind, I am reading the posts which gives me new questions )

How 'successful' do you find the "standard" marketing (hype) sales letters? (I.e., the ones that start off "Dear Friend", then have a bunch of stuff highlighted in yellow, then 50+ random testimonials, then 5 bonuses, then a big 'buy now' button?) Personally I find them annoying (perhaps because I see them so often), so I was wondering if they actually do convert better than say just a "regular" "Hi, here is my product, here is why you should buy it, so buy it!".

What do you think?

    Hello,

I hate them too! Never really understood the logic behind them when I started out a few years ago. However, instead of being a rebel, I thought I would follow the 'industry standards' and do the same.

You can obviously test other styles and your results would be different depending on what niche you're targeting. If you're planning on marketing some IM related service or product, then best stick to the big red headlines, yellow highlights and 50 testimonials format - it has been proven to work

If you get a 2% conversion rate [2 out of 100 visitors buy] with cold prospects/visitors, then you're considered to be doing very well with your promotion.

Thanks, yes, that helps. I was kind of thinking the same thing too (i.e., if I'm marketing to IM people, use the IM format). Have you tried it with non-IM related products? And thanks for the info re: conversions, that's good to know (so basically 2%)

Yup I've read and was told by a millionaire mentor of mine that I'd be doing very well with a 2% conversion rate with cold prospects i.e. people who have never heard of me before. Obviously, the prospects that you capture through an opt-in form and build a relationship with via your autoresponder messages would be more reponsive to your offer(s) over time.

I have tried it with non-IM products and it did work! Marketing is a funny game - it's all about testing and tweaking till you get the perfect marketing mix.
