How Can Google Index More Backlinks Than Yahoo?

Okay so basically everyone knows that when you check backlinks with yahoo and google, google shows very few of how many you actually have and it can take months for them to show up. Yahoo is pretty quick at indexing backlinks and shows most of them.

So I was checking up on my competitions backlinks for one of my niches and I saw that one of these sites that ranks higher than mine only has about 150 index links with yahoo. Wondering how the site can rank 2nd with just a few backlinks, I checked on google and it shows over 200 indexed backlinks.

I have never seen a site have that many backlinks show up indexed by google and especially not shown in yahoo explorer. Even when I check high authority sites with say 20,000 backlinks in yahoo, it usually only shows at the most 200 in google.

When I checked these links all of them are very spammy and fairly recent. Most are in different languages and it looks like nothing but Xrummer blasts.

So does anyone know how this is possible? I have never seen this before and after searching this forum and google I couldn't find anything about it.

It drives me crazy that this one page website ranks very well for a medium competition keyword when my 40 page website on this one niche is struggling to get to the top.
