Early Days Of The Internet

The internet is still less than 60 years old and it's only been commercially used on a massive scale for the last 10 to 20 years.

At times it feels like the internet is a digital version of the wild west. There is extremely little regulation, anything goes and people can get away with extraordinary things.

No one owns the internet but it can't be much longer before a regulated body clamps down on the control of the internet.

I don't mean this to sound like a "internet marketing is dead or dying" thread but I can't see how online business can carry on much longer, without it turning out the way that offline business has.

Will we look back one day on these early days of the internet and think...

How did I get away with that back then?

This begs the question... What is it that you are currently "getting away with" that you don't think you'll be able to do in the future?

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

I've changed it to 10 to 20 years now

I don't have a clue who will initiate the regulation, I agree there's too many sites for it be done effectively from the off but there's already signs in place.

I mean look at > This domain name has been seized by ICE - Homeland Security Investigations

Obviously they were right to seize the domain as streaming copyrighted content is illegal but it shows there are groups with the power to take control of people's websites.

IT is HARD to control this, there is just too much going on... especially macros and bots (they clutter everything up)

Scammers/spammers will attract the regulatory body very soon due to many people getting frustrated with whats happening online now LOL
