Shortest spam comment ever

Well my blog has lately been attracting an awful lot of spam comments. Not sure whether that's good news or bad news as far as real people reading it, but I had to share this.

Most of the spam comments are badly written spun English comments which say things about how the blog is wonderful, they plan to bookmark it, they had been browsing for hours without seeing anything interesting until now, yada, yada.

Today, someone else left a spam comment (I assume it was spam). I was almost tempted to approve it though just because I was amused at how lazy the spammer was. Here is the entire comment:

Thx.

Couldn't even be bothered to spell out the word... Just thought I'd share that.

Eric

lol at least you're getting spam in English. The last few ones that I deleted looked like they were written in Martian or something. Basically just a bunch of letters jumbled together with some links thrown in for good measure. I don't understand why they think that works.

This happens someteims with some auto comment software when either the spin tags are not matched up properly or the original language the comments were written in has characters that are not common in traditional English. Particularly characters that usually need an alt code to display them.

They wrote random letters and than search for them to find blogs with auto-approve comments

it must still be working for them somewhere because they keep doing it. With akismet I dont worry about it too much but it's still a pain in the butt because I do end up missing some legit comments from time to time cause I can't be bothered to look through that many comments.

It works on the automatic approval blogs, though I have no idea why any blogger would turn on auto approval for their blog, not if they want to get quality traffic coming in...

I hate spammers too. I don't care if they want leave backlinks on my website with the anchor text, but it is kind of rude when commenting on that way. It supposed shouldn't be happen since we offer them backlink.

when you traffic grows, you will get spammy comments. I suggest G.A.S.P antibot plugin something along those lines, it will try to install a captcha so you don't get spam comments. Akismet is good but its blocking spammy comments that arent spam sometimes!

It's better than the spam comments I was getting about nude lolitas.. I got over 300 of these spam comments, each one was spun a little differently and contained 100+ porn links each. I was pissed to say the least.. luckly comments require moderation.

    ???

^ I get these every now and then. Plus sometimes are just such duche bags about it. I see spam comments where people trash talk the article then expect to get accepted.. even the trash talking isn't relevant.. some of em are just plain stupid.

But if your English is REAL bad... you could always just ??? your way through to the auto approved blogs...

There was a warrior not too long ago who said all his blogs were auto approved because he liked making it look like there was a lot of communications going on in his threads, and he closed comments after 30 days to keep from getting thousands of comments on old threads.

    I still he's a nut though...

Personally I prefer relevant comments over the quantity of the comments.. I just think it looks bad when there are a bunch of comments that have nothing to do with the subject and generally make no sense.

    How lame is that.

Yes, spam comments on blogs are just one more thing you have to deal with these days. I assume most of them are just looking for some free auto approved backlinks to their vi@gra and pill pushing sites.

You gotta wonder about those spammers don't you...seems like taking a few extra minutes to make something even remotely believable would pay off in the long run.

    Oh well.

    Thx,

Better than the comments that just say ? or euhfuqqq or some other nonsense.

I've developed a new affinity for the plugin Bad Behavior which blocks comment spammers as well as dictionary brute force attacks, spam harvesters, and other hackers.
