How do you normally launch a new product / website?

Hey fellow Warriors,

I know there's a lot of great warriors here with a lot of experience of launching new product and new website, and i thought you can share with us what are the typical process of how you do it?

I would appreciate those are steps that you've tested it personally and getting results with.

Thanks for sharing:

Thomas

  • I hate to tell you this...but that is a HUGE question,
especially if you are talking about a full fledged product
    launch.

I worked behind the scenes of the original stompernet
and i've performed affiliate management and launch
support for another 4 major product launches since then,
including the recent 'mind movies' launch...which grossed around
3/4 of a million. I've also been an affiliate for countless
additional launches, in a few different niches...so I've seen
how others do it as well.

My partner and I also get between 10-20% of the gross
sales when we get involved in a product launch (20% is
when we bring our copywriter with us, 10% is when we
    just do affiliate/launch management).

The reason we get so much...is because there is a ton
involved behind the scenes, that just getting PLF or
Mass Control does not prepare you for.

Okay...having said that...here are some thoughts that
    may help...

    1. Signup as an affiliate for other product launches. If
you can become an affiliate for some of the 'big boys',
that would be especially helpful (Some don't allow 'just
anyone' to signup...so do what you can to get onboard,
    if you can...for those folks).

By watching how others do it...you can definitely learn
    a lot.

    2. Having just said that...what you won't see is everything
involved in the backend. Everything from server setup, to
affiliate tracking, to affiliate recruiting/management, to merchant
account setup...so on and so forth. Again...my partner
and I get paid a lot to help ensure all the different pieces
of a launch are planned for and properly addressed...and
that is because there is a lot more going on then most
    folks are aware of.

by the way...this is also why so many product launches
seem to have problems...because they either forget about
one thing or another...or, if they don't forget about it,
they find a way to screw it up...usually because they
didn't plan far enough in advance...

    3. Speaking of which...the biggest thing I hear from folks
concerning why they have problems...is they didn't plan far
    enough in advance.

So...if you are trying to do any kind of big product
launch...take the timeline you are thinking, and add
at least an extra 2 weeks to it...if not another month.

    4. Test, test and then test some more. Test every
thing you can think of testing...and then think some
more...to make sure you aren't forgetting something
    that needs to be tested.

    5. If you have your own list...then do an internal launch
before letting affiliates get involved. If there is a problem
with the launch (Be that technical or in the marketing),
then you want to find that out ahead of time. You usually
only get one shot at the traffic affiliates send you, and
if you waste that chance...not only will you lose lots of
money you could have made...your reputation may get
shot such that affiliates won't mail for you again.

    6. Get at least one affiliate broker involved. If you don't
have your own affiliate list and/or you don't have the
ability to recruit affiliates...you'll need a broker. There
was a post about affiliate brokers a couple days ago,
including a list of brokers that Mike Merz was kind enough
to provide...so check that out. It will help a lot.

Oh yeah...before doing that...make sure you have your
ducks in a row. If you go to a broker and don't, you
may lose your shot of getting them involved (You know,
    the first impression thing).

    7. Along those same lines...know how you will drive
traffic. If it isn't through affiliates...then it will have
to be in some other way (be that PPC, natural traffic,
other advertising...). Without traffic...you can have
the best converting 'stuff' in the world...and it won't
mean any results (As we all know...it's all about
    traffic and conversion).

I hope this wasn't to 'scary' or 'daunting'...but I also
didn't want to sugar coat the situation. Some of the
big boys make it seem like you can just figure out
the marketing...and the rest just falls in place. If
it were that easy...then I wouldn't be able to command
the kind of compensation that I do.

Okay...so...I hope that helps at least get you thinking
about everything involved in a product launch. I don't
have any experience with just a website launch, so
I couldn't speak to that...but...when it comes to product
launches...I do know a thing or two...so figured I could
at least provide some feedback that may be useful/helpful.

    I hope it was

  • If you were down here in costa rica...

    I'd say...

    Co Mucho Gusto...

    In Mexico...

De Nada (Not as polite as the Costa
    Rican Way)...

or if you were in the States...

    You're Welcome

    Wow, excellent share David,

I will also second the importance of having your first launch be internal before involving affiliates (and expanding later), especially since this is your first launch. There's all kinds of ways you can mess up, and better to limit that to yourself at first!

Do some poking around and find the IM'ers that people really like and respect, and follow their lead.
