Would you open this email?

So I've noticed that I'm on a lot of lists, and most of the time I have NO IDEA who these people sending me emails everyday are.. I'm sure I've purchased something from most of them, or downloaded a free report... maybe?

So I'm wondering, do you open emails from people you don't recognize just because it has a catchy email title, or do you delete them because you have no idea who the person is?

Most important.. which emails do YOU open and why?

i only open them if i know who they are. and if i do open it, and it doesn't tell me in the first couple of lines what it's about, i close it and delete it.

Good timing for your question since I've recently been thinking about how I'm going to go about unsubscribing from a whole lot of lists. Way too many to read everyday -- like you, from buying products and signing up for free reports.

The first ones I'm going to eliminate are those who regularly send multiple emails on a daily basis.

Next, I plan to delete all those who don't use a name as the sender. Examples in my inbox right now are: Confirmed Downloads, Success Center, Blogger Admin, Client Services, Account admin, Product Download Alert, etc. Why should I need to click through just to see who sent these?

Rarely do I check an email because of a catchy title. I tend to scan who sent it and only look at the subject line if I connect with the sender's name.

The ones I plan to keep are the senders who offer valuable information on subjects of interest to me and those for future product updates on purchases.

I'm over getting ten to twenty announcements for the latest launch, ad swaps that go on forever and loads of empty sales pitches.

    So glad you asked!

I usually open them because of the 'sender' and not the subject line.

But if I do open one of the 20k plus emails in my gmail account for opting into everyones list... then I keep that email and put it into a special folder for future reference and swiping...

... because there was something that there that either clicked with me or because it landed in my inbox at a time when I had a 'problem' it was promising to help solve (which can change month to month).

I've noticed that I'm suddenly on 3 new IM email lists that I did not subscribe to. It looks like someone sold their list. However, I haven't unsubscribed yet

I open most emails and they get at least a few seconds of my attention. But yeah if it's not interesting or useful in anyway that person never will never get a second chance Also, it's very easy to spot spam or junk email these days anyway.

I usually open emails from the people I know and can trust their advice.

I also open those with good catchy titles and read through the message to see what catches attention - I can use some strategies to generate ideas for my own list

Not surprisingly... it's all about the relationship we have with the list that gets people to open emails.

Yet so FEW list builders work on their relationship at all.. very interesting.

Any tips on how you got to know the people you trust the most or how they were able to build a relationship with you?

Obviously a quality product is the first step... but was it the only step needed or have they reached out to you in other ways as well?

My guess is most IMers don't know squat about their niche. They are just in it because its profitable. Like the health and fitness niche, for instance. No way in hell they'll be able to answer their subscribers' questions... unless they do some Google research to each question, which is not worth the time.

lol..just like my email..always getting lot of emails from mailing list subsciptions.. about weeks ago i find some IMers i've subscribed sending me just promotion emails..nothing less than that.. i can name some of them here..but just dont want make any speculation mentions the names here..what make felt weird is there're BIG IMers..

not many IMers just like that..there're also subscriptions from BIG IMers i still read their email till today coz it worth it..some people just don't barely want the money..they think more about good relationship with theirs customers @ subscribers..

I usually only open the emails from people i know or i have found to be giving good information. I find that a lot of people spam you with emails from the minute they get your email address. The more genuine IM'ers dont seem to do this at all.
The best thing to do is have a seperate account for signing up to freebies.

Good timing with this thread. I've been getting fed up of all the emails with subject lines which have nothing to do with the content, if I get those now, I open them and click straight on the unsubscribe link!

In fact it was getting on my nerves so much I wrote a short rant about it on my blog ;-) http://wealthcreatingvideos.com/blog/?p=52

I open most, if not all of them. If I don't know the sender, I look at it (in preview mode) for about 2 seconds.

If someone has a catchy subject, then I might give it another minute to see what they are going for. I am usually never interested in their product, but I am interested in everyone's marketing!
