Do you reply to your blog comments?

If you are using a blog to build traffic or using other people's blogs for this traffic, have you been replying to the comments that are being posted.

Blog marketing is a very successful marketing method due to the ease of building authority and trust between the viewer. Most of this comes from you being interactive with the reader. When a comment is placed on your post, replying with even more information about the subject proves even further that you are someone that should be listened to.

Don't just leave a "thank you for your comment". Go all out just like you would commenting on another person's site. The more quality you give the more your readers will love you.

One guest post I did last month produced 5 comments in the first 14 days it was up. I went back and replied to each of those 5 comments with quality content. Within 7 more days, there were 20 comments...7 more = 50 comments.

A few things could of happened to cause this...the blog owner happened to promote my guest post the day I replied to those comments (unlikely), one of the commenters linked to my guest post (a little bit more likely than scenario 1), or viewers of the post saw that I was actively helping the readers understand more about what I was talking about and they wanted to learn (most likely).

This boost of comments on that guest post turned a traffic source of 2-5 viewers per day to 20-50. That blog has a sidebar widget with "Most Popular Posts"...only about 85 more comments and my article will have a much better chance of being seen by every viewer that comes to that site because it will be on the sidebar of every page.

Try it out.

Travis

I always reply to anyone who takes the time to leave me a comment. That way they know there is a real person running the site and developing a relationship could result into a JV or something equal to that.

I agree, I always try to post at least a thank you and try to find something else to say. That's a good idea though to just start adding more info in my response though, even when they haven't asked for it. Especially, now that I've figured out it's better NOT to cover every little detail in my blog post. LOL

Well, if you are a copy-paste blogger, then you'll be probably doing the self-commenting work but if you got something unique, which makes the viewers interested in your blog, getting comments, or buying them is not needed.

Yea, I wouldn't waste my time commenting on autoblogs either. I've not seen much relationship building success with those.

    Hey Travis,

Couldn't agree more. I just went through a product launch (obviously a bit different to a blog post) but made sure to reply to each of the people that left a comment. It definitely made a difference to the sense of community around that launch.
