The Case of the Disappearing Traffic

I have been doing affiliate marketing for about 5 1/2 months. I have a crackerjack article writer who is A+. I have 10 affiliate sites, all with serious attention to lots of high quality content. I am well published on all of the top article directories. I have dismal monthly traffic totals of like 50 - 60 visitors per Google Analytics on my best sites. All content is written with thoroughly researched keywords. Tonight I discovered that I have many articles on the first page of Google WITHOUT quotation marks around my keywords. On one I occupy the top 4 spots. On another my Squeeze Page is ranked number 5 after 3 floater sites. So...where is all the traffic? Is it possible that my affiliate links are being hijacked? Or is this just an internet rumor? I am totally confused.

Are you signed in with your Google account when you check your rankings?

Double check it through hidemyass.com. Google plays tricks by showing you what they think you want to see. Using the proxy there, you'll see what everyone else would see.

Why waste your time hiring a cheap writer? Cheap writers don't write stuff that converts!

Huh? Hidemyass is a proxy server. It's meant to make you anonymous online. The advantage of repeating the search there is that your personal preferences aren't saved anywhere and you'll see what others would see. Otherwise, Google uses cookies to track your searches and will show you what it thinks you want to see, meaning that if you regularly search for your own domain, your personal search will show up your domain in the top rankings even though it's not generally in the top rankings.

          Yes, exactly check this first.

But then, if you still come up without being logged in the next thing to look at is the exact search volume for your keywords. If you are going for the typical "low hanging fruit" keywords with 2000 exact searches a month you will not get much traffic unless you are in the #1 spot.

That's one of the mistakes I used to make was to go for these lower searched keywords and expect to get traffic when I got to page 1.

          Hope that helps!
