Do anyone use free domain/web hosting to target multiple keywords and drive traffic to their sites?

I've been using a free web hosting site online 000webhost.com to practice web design and SEO for free. I just had an ideal while tweaking my site that you use multiple free sites, targeting multiple keywords and locations/areas to drive traffic to your business website. Its like site flipping, but the domains are free and its for your business website.

For example
website1.com targets los angeles seo
website2.com targets san diego seo
website3.com targets malibu seo

I'm not from California so don't criticize me

when you click on one of the links it redirects visitors to your main business website: website4.com

or

you just clone your main website 3 times and use email capture

have anyone ever done this?

    I don't know how well those sites will rank, seo wise...Google likes trusted domains and it usually helps when a domain is purchased, they also like when domains are purchased for 2+ years, shows you mean business....just a thought
