Hey, look at the new CB regs!

We wanted to share some of the most important guidelines to keep in mind when creating your Pitch Page, upsells and other sales material. To ensure that ClickBank vendors stay in good standing with the FTC, we will apply these guidelines when approving new products and working with existing vendors.

· Most importantly, please do not significantly alter your Pitch Page after approval. We recognize that some changes are necessary for testing, but if you need to make significant changes to your page (such as earnings claims or images, sales messaging or video content), please notify your Account Manager so we can ensure the new page is also in compliance.

· For Internet Marketing products: Per the new FTC information, sales material shouldn't create the impression that customers can easily earn money without putting in much work, and should give specific ideas of how they'll earn the money (e.g., content marketing, video marketing, social media, etc). Sales pages should also not overstate how much can realistically be made, or imply that earnings are guaranteed.

· The FTC also strongly discourages false urgency/scarcity messaging (for example, "Only 3 copies left!") when there is no actual scarcity. Closing the doors to new customers after a specified amount of time and reopening later is fine.

· Any Pitch Page references to ClickBank sales stats need to be verifiable by ClickBank, and need to have been earned by the methods being promoted. For example, selling an affiliate training product using sales snapshots from a vendor-only account is not allowed.

· For vendors using video Pitch Pages, if a Buy Now button appears during the course of the video, the price must appear as well. We also request that vendors provide transcripts of video sales letters when submitting a product for approval.

· For upsells, the initial product purchased must be valuable and usable on its own, without requiring the purchase of the upsell offers. Customers must also be able to immediately access their original purchase upon completion of their order, before being presented with upsell offers. An access link may be placed on the first upsell offer page, but the link must be very clear and conspicuous (i.e., not hidden or in a small font). We highly recommend that vendors use ClickBank's official upsell flows to present upsell offers to customers.

· Please submit product approval requests at least several days before your launch, so that ClickBank has time to thoroughly review the offer and request changes if necessary. This is especially the case for products with video sales letters, since making changes to these can take time. We may not be able to accommodate last-minute requests.

· To prevent customer complaints, vendors should not close refund request tickets or switch tickets from Refund to Tech Support more than once, and the latter should only be used when actually trying to help the customer and save the sale.

And what about the blatant use of actors in a lot of the sales videos who have no relevance to the product or indeed the IM industry? Looking at the jvnotifypro calender I can see about 20 releases that I'm pretty certain will violate most of these terms. Time will tell if any of this actually gets properly implemented I guess.

    Jamie,

Not that I doubt you. But where exactly did you pull this from?

    Email? Webpage? Where?

    Site your source, please.

I do not see the page being indexed in Google, Yahoo or Bing. And before I raise a flag with Clients, a fact check is in order.

    Please help.

Thanks for sharing... but a link to the source will be helpful too.

This is important and helpful information. Would be good to verify and explore deeper to see what else is covered in the new regs.

The regs seem to be in line with business best practices and common sense measures. Hopefully, it will help control some of the unsavory practices out there.

    Hey all,

Just wanted to jump in an confirm that this is 100% legitimate... many top ClickBank vendors and affiliates got this notification from their APEX representatives via email late yesterday, and a few more early today.

Side Note: For those unfamiliar, APEX is a group made up of the top XX number ClickBank of vendors and affiliates, the number has changed a few times now. This allows the top CB affiliates and vendors to go straight to a dedicated ClickBank account representative with any questions/comments/concerns they may have.

Also, without naming anyone specifically, I know that ClickBank has been in touch with several high profile vendors regarding a few of the launches that have taken place over the past 3-6 months. I'm not going any further with this, so don't bother asking who, or what about... just know that ClickBank seems to have started to wake up a little.

    -Gary Ambrose

P.S. Emphasis on wake up a LITTLE... (don't expect anything major to change, at least not based on what I'm hearing)

It's about time that they care about the BUYERS of the products.

Absolutely normal rules for any type of business so I hope that the merchants do understand that this is beneficial for the overall rep of Affiliate Marketing.

But like the ban on the "Movie Download" sites, we have to see how this is really implemented as back then it took 2 weeks and those scam offers where back at CB (making them good money).

Be interesting to see if they police it. Just like the FTC has rules and regs pertaining to online marketing but they don't seem to implement them. But if CB does go with this it will really set the cat amongst the pigeons. Meaning - a lot of the current best-sellers will be in breach.

This is an interesting one -
For example, selling an affiliate training product using sales snapshots from a vendor-only account is not allowed.
Now where did we see that just recently - where the vendor account showed up on a zip pan in the video of the Clickbank earnings - and some enterprising chap freeze-framed it. LOL. I notice that section of the video has been deleted now and the vid starts in the middle of the young guy's pitch.

And this dirty trick is targeted as well -
To prevent customer complaints, vendors should not close refund request tickets or switch tickets from Refund to Tech Support more than once, and the latter should only be used when actually trying to help the customer and save the sale.
So we'll see if they mean business eh?

            Hey Omar great point
Don't see them cutting off their nose to spite the face.
But if they are serious then it will be harder for any new products to get approved.
I would be surprised to see them revamp what is already existing. Its easier to just implement the new regs from here on out.

It would be nice if the network automatically detected a change to the page and then automatically email all affiliates who have sent traffic to that affiliate - don't know if that's possible from a programming perspective but it would be so nice!

I just posted a new thread on an CB affiliate that seems to have changed their order page - and it is NO LONGER CLICKBANK! which means stolen traffic, lost revenue to affiliates, lots of wasted effort, and lost revenue to CB too.

About time this happened. How they are going to police it I don't know but great. Am fed up to the teeth with the ridiculous claims, false clickbank screens etc. Looking forward to some more transparent product descriptions that actually tell you what it is and what really the average Joe can expect to make from it. A video of the product being operated (if software) would be nice too instead of using actors going on for hours ( like the hilarious recent one of the little (lookalikeee) bald man who bears more than a resembleance to the the little bald guy in a suit who dances in the disney ad's.)

Great news except the big Guru's will desert Clickbank in droves and re-group selling directly to their Paypal accounts. Perhaps they will get them frozen due to getting loads of money in a short space of time! Lol

Any Pitch Page references to ClickBank sales stats need to be verifiable by ClickBank, and need to have been earned by the methods being promoted. For example, selling an affiliate training product using sales snapshots from a vendor-only account is not allowed.

This above measure is key. Now, people here on the forum as well as potential buyers have OFFICIAL recourse to request verifiable proof of revenues generated.
    1. Were the revenues generated from the product you are selling? --or--
    2. Are the revenues you claim generated from actual results of the product being executed?

Other items they should disclose are:
    1. Is this a single product owner, or is this collusion between a group of marketers.
    2. The use of Fake Actors to promote the product. Under neath Fake video promoters, there should be a disclosure that states the following:
    a. Name of Actor & whether or not that actor has been compensated.
Example: Video Disclaimer: Johnny Doe of BigReps.com has been compensated for the promotion of Product X on newproductlaunch.com
It's clear, it's informational, and clarifies facts that can be successfully audited.

How is this relevant to the quality of the product being sold? If anything, a product created by collaboration of marketers often means a stronger (better) product being sold.

      2. The use of Fake Actors to promote the product. Under neath Fake video promoters, there should be a disclosure that states the following:

Again, how is this relevant to the product delivering what is promised?

There's a lot of ethical marketers who are camera-shy, stutter, or have a strong accent that use a polished video Actor/Actress to promote their product in their salesletter.

I can tell you that Clickbank isn't just talking about enforcing their stricter policy, they are acting on it.

A few weeks ago, the top gravity product in the "Green Niche" was kicked off Clickbank (Magniwork.com) While this is small compared to some of the IM product sales numbers, this is pretty significant considering it was the top product in the marketplace listings.

I have also seen a few examples of Clickbank not approving some of our competitor's newer products. And just last week Clickbank basically forced a top selling product (again in Green niche) to leave after their toned down sales page didn't convert.

Where are they going? Yea, it's Plimus. I guess Plimus is becoming the junk yard of "Clickbank slaps".

I have about 20 products in the Green/Energy/Survivalist and have already worked with Clickbank on a few of our sales pages. They were easy to work with and after some reworked sales pages we have the same conversions as before (but now less hype and more down to earth).

Although my competitors are hating these changes, I applaud Clickbank for doing this and think it will make the legitimate vendors all that much stronger.

I don't know the facts on maniwork being taken off the CB market, but it's possible it had to do with an overall account being closed, because the person who owns magniwork is also one of the top 3 or 4 guys doing Forex Launches (which make the stuff going on in IM look like it's being run by saints) and has also over the last year become a big player in IM - and his IM products were among the worst (refund rates near 70% on seven figure launches).

So, it's purely speculation here, but like I said I wouldn't be surprised if they just suspended his account entirely, and if they did that's great and speaks well for CB going forward.

It's about time...So sick of all those products where people are showing they made $10,000+ in a day by using a simple "push button software" that generated those figures instantly.

The only thing that generated those figures was a wealthy JV lineup and a boatload of affiliates, not to mention a hefty affiliate contest with big prizes to reel in some of the big dogs.

Launching a product and pulling in 6 figures may be cool, but trying to sell that product based on your earnings as a VENDOR isn't. Hopefully there really is a process where images have to be verified and stamped with a CB seal of approval before going on the salespage. That would help filter some of the B/S. Then again, I don't purchase many IM products via CB, just because I know most of them are garbage.

Really, most of it all is like those money exchanges back in the day - "You send $20 to me and these other 10 people, then send this letter to 20 others who will do the same, blah blah blah". Most of these guys are doing the same - "Here, you send my crappy product to your list of 100,000 people to help me have a successful launch. Then, when you launch your product (that's essentially the same thing with a different name, of course), I will send YOUR offer to MY list of 100,000".

    Anyone see a pattern here?

it is about time this will happen. I see it as a trend that clickbank will only strengthen in time.

With all the crap out there at the moment, i think clickbank will come down harder soon or later, this is just the warning shot.

For example, selling an affiliate training product using sales snapshots from a vendor-only account is not allowed.
About time. This one angers me a lot, see it all the time.
