Default Blogging For Cash - My Finding Isn't Scientific

Hi All,

I know that Blogging is one quick way of making money online, so I thought I'd take a wider look at the potential income streams. Of course being a marketer it seems counter intuitive to consider blogging about anything outside the IM world, but I've noticed that the blogs that rake in the big cash aren't necessarily about making money online.

I did a whois search on Perezhilton and Johnchow and the domains were registered 2005 and 2000 respectively. Further research reveals that Perez Hilton makes around 4 times more blogging about celebrities than John chow who blogs about making money online.

I know there are more variables that contribute to the incomes of both blog, but my crude assumption is that it is better to blog 'where the money is', rather than blog about money.

Does this make any sense to anyone?

Making money online is a small niche among millions of different niches you can blog about. The niche is discussed a ton on this forum because it happens to be the theme of the forum.

The only way to make money with a blog is to create content worthy of having people want to read it. You look at Perez Hilton's blog, his readers are there for an hour or more, every day and all he does is provides his opinions on celebrity news.

If you are ever bored, check into how much he charges for a banner on the right side of his blog... pretty crazy.

The moral of the story, blog where your knowledge and passion is and find ways to monetize it. If you blog about something you know nothing about, your readers will not be fooled and you won't make a dime.

Lets say for instance you collect Mickey Mantle baseball cards. Create a blog about that, comment on everything in the news that is related to Mickey Mantle and/or baseball cards. Add a script that displays all the current Mickey Mantle baseball cards that are listed on eBay (with your affiliate link embedded into the script of course) and you've got yourself a profitable blog. Believe me, it works.
