How do you know when you have found a good niche?

Reliever is the question. I am basically trying to find a single niche that I can put my full effort into on one site, but I am having trouble determining if what I think is a decent niche, really is one or not. I have just been using google keyword tool, looking for keywords that get 500-60000 hits a months with low competition. Are there any major signs that idicate that you have a strong niche?

Thanks,

The competition shows a strong niche among several thing. Then your decision to STAND OUT is also key.

A niche with a hungry market
      Low competition
High search number (at least a hundred daily)
A new but potentially promising niche

Niche has a buyers market and you have a passion for that niche.

Hmmm I used to think that about the low competition...but not too low because you need some people in there and a way to stand out from them

When it converts! You might take it as a joke but it's the truth. You just NEVER KNOW. I know many people will support me on that view.

I really appreciate the responses. I just want to get started on the right foot, so I do not end up spending money on something that has no potential, with my low startup costs. Although I do realize that trial and error is a key to mAstering a field.
