Submitting site map to google good for SEO?

I read somewhere a while back that it's good for SEO if you submit your submit your site map. I think it was to google or maybe some other site I can't remember. Anybody have any experience with this?

Its always a good idea to submit all site maps to google. It definitely can't hurt, and I personally think it helps get pages indexed quicker.

How about experimenting and letting us know?

Maybe have one site that you do submit the site index map, and one that you don't...

And then check the results?

If you have a Google account - go to Webmaster Tools - everything there.

I would advise setting up an account with google webmaster central. You can manage your sitemaps, analytics, etc. in one place.

I created a blog on a new domain. Used some sitemap plugin, wrote an article submitted it to goarticles and I was index in about 48 hours. Not sure if it was the article or the sitemap submission but I was in. It can't hurt to submit your sitemap along with anything else you employ to get your site indexed.

I use Xsitepro2 and everything is done for me already so I wouldn't know how to add a sitemap on a regular website. Sorry

I submitted my site map and it came back with an error saying my format isn't compatible. Anybody know how to fix this issue?

Did you submit it as a .xml file? And is that .xml file present on your site?

This is the "normal" method for google and you should be able to check the validity through the Webmaster Tools menus.

Nope its a html file. How do I change it?
