Need Wordpress tech help!

Hello,

I put a meta tag code in a wordpress blog of mine in order to sell it on flippa but it totally messed up the entire site as well as the back end. I am not strong at codeing so not totally sure how to fix this.

-I do know the code and wish to remove it but can't find it in the files and I have gone to hostgator and looked through everything I can find.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? I keep being told that it's simply a matter of finding the code (Tag) and removing it but I can't find it

Thanks.

Wow, that's a tough one. I could suggest maybe copying the entire code into another format that you can do a proper search in to find all the instances of tag that might help.
Even notepad has a find option.

Do you remember how you added the tag?

Were you following advise in a tutorial, for example?

That might give some clues about where to find it.

Maybe you could manually login to your FTP and change the folder name of your current theme that is being used. That will disable it and at least allow you to do to your dashboard and try to install a different theme for temporary until your main one is fixed.

Send me the url and I'll look at the source code, and tell you what to do.

And when I say nobody should ever use the idiotic online theme editor... people don't like to hear it. They like to neglect it.

Just another victim of that useless editor: it has NO UNDO BUTTON! - don't use it ever!!!

You should always edit the template files of your theme on your own computer - AFTER making a backup copy of it. So, if you screw it up, you have an untouched copy to upload.

    Fix:
    a) get a "virgin" copy of your active theme. Delete the theme's copy that you messed around with from your server (via FTP) and upload the good copy.

    b) make a backup copy (=save it in a different folder) of your theme

    c) edit the file you need to add the meta tag in a text editor (like Notepad)

    d) upload the file to the server and check your blog

    e) if you screwed up, upload the backup copy's file

    f) repeat c,d,e until you get it right!

Seem there is no response from freemen14 and he either give up or already find a solution to his problem.

Would like to see some closure to this thread

Tow suggestions for the future (and for anyone else reading this thread) -

    1. Use a plug-in that periodically backs up your site.

    2. Before editing any code do a select all and copy it and paste it into a text editor - just as a temporary quick and easy little backup insurance. Once you have made your coding changes and are sure it is okay, then delete your temporary text file.

    Peace,

    Roey.

export your posts and content from your dashboard.

    reinstall the theme

import the posts and content back into your blog.

you'll have atleast your blog working. Then proceed to editing the code but this time carefully

If you pasted the code in the theme, just delete the theme folder. If you were using TwentyTen theme, delete the TwentyTen folder. Don't delete the "themes" folder. Now install the same theme or any other.

If this solution doesn't work, I am pretty sure you have tampered with the WordPress files. You just need to overwrite the WP folder without deleting the existing one so that all defective files get replace with original copies.

If you can't figure it yourself, fire me a mail.
