Camtasia and voice quality

I'm using Camtasia 7 studio and my built in laptop mic. My voice quality is extremly poor. Do You think the main problem is my microphone or there are some settings which I missed?

I recommend you to use an external mic because your pc (or laptop mic its affected by noise), I use a Logitech headset with canceling noise microphone and works great.

The built-in microphone will not give you very good quality. A headset, tie (lavilier), or desk mounted microphone will give much better results.

Also check your audio settings. The ones that work for me best are:

    Audio Codec: PCM (uncompressed audio)
    Audio Format: 44100Hz, 16 Bit, mono, 86KB/s

I don't have version 7, so the location may be a bit different, but on mine I open the Camtasia Recorder (i.e. run the record wizard) and from the recorder window go to Tools > Options > Streams tab, and the audio settings are at the bottom.

    Mic for sure.

I had similar issues. I was lucky enough to find a guy in London who customizes inexpensive off the shelf headsets with his own mic chips. Absolutely awesome results comapared with both the compter mic and another crappy throwaway one I had lying around.

The headset only cost me something like $15 - he was (maybe still is) virtually giving these things away on eBay. I had a skype chat with him and you could see all these headsets in the background in various stages of 'upgrading' lol. It looked like the Batcave.

Anyways...yeah. Better mic will do the trick.

It's most likely the mic. I use a snowball mic, it's great and not expensive at all, look for it at Amazon, I think it is something like 50 bucks.

I use Camtasia 6 and a very inexpensive headset. My laptop built in mic doesn't have anywhere near the same quality.

What everyone else said... Definitely the mic. Even a cheap one should do the job unless you're extremely concerned about having high quality audio

Ugh gosh, I tried Camtasia and it was very confusing to me. So can't help you there

I had no problem with Camtasia voice quality, it's your mic.

Best to get a high quality mic if you want to do a lot of recording. I need to buy a new one, I hate the "s" sound from a poor quality mic, need a mic that will soften that for me.
