How big do you think the "making money online" business is?

This site is certainly an indicator, but just curious how big you think the "making money online" business is? That is, business aimed at helping people make money online with products, memberships etc.

I suspect it must be pretty big but it's not my niche, though I have a great domain that I may start to work in that area.

Well if you take it in traffic, the numbers are very big.
    135.000 searches/month on exact match.
Think about it 135.000/30= would mean 4500 unique visitors per day.

You'd be surpised that it's actually not that big compared to a lot of others niches. There's a lot of hobby niches that are way, way bigger than the MMO niche and you'd never of thought of them. Put it this way - how many MMO magazines do you ever see at news stands or big book/magazine store outlets? Virtually none. Then take a lot at how many you see about sewing, model railways, fishing etc. It's not even close.

It's big, but there is tons of room for growth. I'm surprised more people aren't turning to it to make money while they are unemployed.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

      This is an interesting question..

If you're on the inside like we are, it's HUGE. And don't get me wrong, this forum is hoppin and this industry is a multi-billion-dollar per-year industry like doorkicker said.

      But that's from the inside.

Compared to the other "evergreen" niches - health/fitness, relationships, personal finance (outside of MMO) - the "IM" niche is relatively small and exclusive, in my opinion.

Here's an example: do your friends or family ever ask what you do? Have any of them ever even HEARD of "affiliate marketing" or other "IM" terms?

Probably not, at least that's what I get. I don't even try to explain it any more because no one has the slightest idea and flat-out don't get the concept of "digital information products".

Most people don't even know about the MMO game, or think it's all scams, and think getting $10 for every friend they tell Netflix about is the best thing since sliced bread.

But go to them and talk about losing weight. Or getting a six pack, etc.

      They all know about those.

Kinda puts in perspective what we do and how little people know about it on a broad scheme.

      • The IM market is big. But it only gets bigger as more people get online and see the potential for extra money or a business.

There are A LOT of niches though and more coming up everyday ( new iframe fanpages, you tube live, etc)

This site is a good indicator, but it also isn't. I was in IM for about 2 years "alone" if you will, before I found this site. The REAL newbies, don't even make it here righ away. Trust me.

So each niche has different levels like beginner, intermediate, and expert. For example the wordpress niche, the beginner is trying to install it and find hosting, the intermediate is doing wordpress themes, adsense, and looking for ways to monetize it, the experts are coding and creating plugins, etc. So these are niches inside of the wordpress niche, but it goes on and on and on.

The vast amount of people, and the vast amount of opportunities, make this industry so exciting!
